Gospel Reflection - Sunday, 24th September, 2023
Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Matthew 20:1-16
In the parable of the workers in the vineyard, Jesus teaches about God's generous mercy. Through this Gospel we learn that Jesus' conception of justice emphasizes generosity, not giving to each person what he or she deserves. “Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last.”
Jesus is teaching us that we can do nothing to earn His generous love; it is given to any who are willing to accept it. Those who are 'first' - those who think that they have done something to deserve God's love - will be last. Those who are last - those who know that they cannot earn God's love - will be first. - Loyola Press
We had our Board of Trustees meeting last week. The year is racing by as we approach the end of Term 3. At the meeting, we had a presentation from Deborah Norris about her work supporting our children, with additional challenges, reach their best in their education. She has been really committed to this and we could clearly see her passion in this area and the results of her hard work and dedication. Following that, we reviewed some of our school policies as a group. These are available to be viewed by all via our website on an application called SchoolDocs. We also reviewed our financial situation and our Health & Safety record for the term and the year. We are currently in a good place in both areas.
With the Scripture Reading Competition recently, our Production this week and then end of term tomorrow, it has been a busy period for our children. Our teachers and school staff have been doing a great job co-ordinating all of this and keeping our kids focussed and on track.
I hope you have a great school holiday break and look forward to getting into Term 4 in a couple of weeks.
Nga mihi
Mike Tohill - Presiding Member – St Theresa’s Catholic School, Board of Trustees
Congratulations to Matthew Bleach who finished 7th in the Year 5 National Cross Country Competition in Christchurch with a time of 7.33. That is super fast!
We are very proud of your achievement.
Matthew was also part of the 4 man Wellington A Team that took out the Boys Yr 5 gold medal! This is super impressive, Matthew and we wish you well for whatever your sporting opportnities in the future bring you.
Summer uniform in Terms 4 and 1
Just a reminder that children wear their summer uniform in these two terms however, there is a two week transition period. After Labour Weekend, we expect to see everyone in their correct uniform. If you're unsure of anything, please check our website.
Important dates for Term 4, 2023
In anticipation of everyone doing their spring clean in the upcoming school holidays, we have a request. As we will be having our annual Children Only Bring and Buy Day on Thursday, 2nd November, PLEASE keep us in mind when sorting all your pre-loved items, specifically children's book, games, toys, ornaments, etc. All contributions can be left in Rooms 9 or 10 from the start of Term 4. Much more info/details to follow in Term 4 - this is just to get the ball rolling!
The staff at St. T's thank you all for the support we have received this term. It's been a busy term and a bit of a rough one in terms of staff illnesses however, we made it! We really appreciate all you do for us.
There will be pizza available for 9 weeks in Term 4. No pizza on the last day of term - 15th December.
The full procedure details for ordering are attached.

'The Goldfish Boy' by Lisa Thompson
This novel is about a young boy called Matthew who has a fear of germs and illness. This results in him constantly cleaning, refusing to go out of his room, not going to school and staring out his window. When a black car reverses into one of Matthew's neighbours' driveway and two children come rushing out of the car, things are beginning to change. First one of the children from the black car goes missing and Matthew is turned in for questioning.
My favourite part is when Matthew is investigating because I feel that this is the reason that he is overcoming his fears.
My favourite character would most definitely be Matthew because I like the way that he has to face challenges that any other character in this story doesn't.
I would give this book a 9/10 because even though it is a good read, it can be frustrating when there is a cliffhanger.
Overall this book is great and the author has really tried to make it interesting and persuasive to keep reading.
I would recommend this to ages 8 and over….
This is a story for people who like to be kept guessing; there is a problem though, you can't put it down!
