Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Thank you to everyone who joined us on Sunday for our Parish/School Mass. Our numbers were lower than usual due to sickness however, the children read and sang beautifully and it was a lovely celebration. Thank you to those people who stepped in to help with the sausage sizzle and morning tea.
We are all getting very excited about our production this term which is being held at Southward Car Museum on Tuesday, 19th and Wednesday, 20th September. The staff and children have been working really hard on dances, singing, costumes and learning lines. More information on tickets, etc. will come out next week but please mark the dates in your diaries now so you don't miss this great event.
Thank you for your patience and support this week as we negotiate a high level of sickness across the school. Our teaching staff have continued to do an amazing job of keeping things as normal as possible for the children.
Wishing you all a happy and safe weekend.
Nga mihi

Gospel Reflection - Sunday, 20th August, 2023
Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Matthew 15:21-28
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus heals the daughter of a Canaanite woman because of her great faith. Jesus initially rejects her request to heal her daughter but because of the woman's great faith, persistence and belief in Jesus’ ability, He rewards her faith by helping her daughter. In this Gospel, like the Canaanite woman, we are reminded to pray with confidence and in faith that God will provide for all that we need.
Anyone out there with green fingers?
If you or anyone you know is interested in doing some gardening here at school for a couple of hours a week, please contact Gina at Office for more information.

NETBALL
St T’s Angels vs NPS Whataitai. Score 16 - 19 to NPS.
An incredibly hard-fought game this week. The team left it all out on court! PoD Izzy Cato for driving forward to the goal and creating space to receive the pass. Two MMs to Hannah Murphy and Amelia Ho for perseverance in sticking to their partners and going for every intercept they could.
St. T’s Saints vs Paremata Pulse: Score 0-8
A tough battle this week but still loads of fantastic netball for the spectators to enjoy!
Player of the Day - Brooke Barber
Magic Moments - Holly Reading & Alexandra Baker
We lost 2 - 4 to Titahi Bay. Player of the Day: Carly Doughty
Excellent team work and encouragement between the players.

Last Thursday, Mrs. Hunt, Katherine and eight enthusiastic Hub Leaders attended the Book Awards annual workshop day held at the National Library in Wellington on an extremely chilly winter's day. We attended workshops and presentations over the course of the day and ended with the opportunity to ask questions of the author panel consisting of six amazing Junior Fiction authors. What an awesome, inspiring and fun-filled day it was!
Enjoy these Hub Leaders reports and some photos from the day ….
Emily M….. I had a great time learning about all the authors and illustrators. It exceeded my expectations. My favourite part was at the end where we could ask questions of the panel. I didn't feel confident enough to ask my own questions but I still loved listening to all the other questions and the author's answers.
I also liked getting my paper signed by author J L Williams. I'm keen to read “Echo” by Arlo Kelly and will issue it from the Learning Hub.
After that day, I decided I wanted to write a book of my own. As soon as I got home I started writing a book as I had some ideas already. Overall the day was really fun and inspiring.
Jacob S….. I reckon the trip was an exciting day with lots of fun and fabulous presentations but my favourite ones must include David Riley and Ant Sang's superhero presentation and Donovan Bixley's drawing display.
My favourite author would be Arlo Kelly because he is such an inspiring author despite his age.
By going to this showcase I now want to read “Echo” by Arlo Kelly and “Below”by David Hill.
This experience has also inspired me to draw more because I found that sketching helps me to tell the story better. Surprisingly it also enhances my creativity to another level.
Izzy C…..I loved going to the book awards because we got to meet lots of different authors and illustrators. My favourite workshop was “The Lighthouse Princess”, illustrated by Rose Northey. I liked it because we got to draw anything we wanted and we got to see how she draws every little detail.
My favourite author is Arlo Kelly because it is really amazing how he wrote a book at 14 years old! I now really want to read: “Echo”, by Arlo Kelly “Below” by David Hill, and “Children of the rush” by James Russell because they sound exciting. I was really inspired by Rose Northey because she showed us how we can illustrate books and how to use such little detailed drawings to tell another angle to a story. Thank you Mrs Hunt and Katherine for taking us!
Sam R…..The day started with a cool trip on the train into Wellington to the National Library. My favourite workshop was the Illustrators who were doing drawings and we had to come up with ideas of what to draw. The week before the book awards I got the book called “Below” by David Hill for my birthday and it was up for one of the awards – and it won! It’s a story about two kids who went to a mine illegally and got trapped in a tunnel and water is filling the cave rapidly. It’s really nerve wracking!
I would like to say thank you to Mrs Hunt for taking us to the Book Awards. It was a really cool experience – I loved it. Being a library hub leader is the best.
Luna B…..There were many workshops. My favourites were getting to draw a superhero person (or anything you think is a hero), creating an ice cream shop with crazy stuff in it ( mine had no gravity) and to design a magical creature with as many different animal parts as you wanted. Donovan Bixley put all the animals into a real detailed picture.
My favourite illustrators were Rose Northey (“The Lighthouse Princess") and Donovan Bixley “A Portrait of Leonardo”). Rose was so energetic and she did such nice illustrations and Donovan because he makes such cool detailed art.
I would like to say a big thank you to Mrs Hunt for treating us to a nice hot chocolate on a very cold day. I felt like a grown up and it made me warm.
Alisa S…..I enjoyed the trip to the National library for the Book Awards because it was fun and nice to meet all the authors. My favourite part was when the authors signed my book and the interview panel. It was fun to ask questions and hear the author's answers.
Lashini J…..On Thursday the Hub Leaders went to Wellington for the Book Awards. We took a train ride to Wellington and walked up to the Wellington National Library. We were joined by dozens of other schools.
The authors and illustrators presented their books and told us about the book and how they wrote or illustrated the stories. My favourite presentation was with Lighthouse Princess book illustrator Rose Northey. Rose explained how to start a storyboard, how to draw the pictures and where to put the words.
I am inspired by Arlo Kelly, author of Echo. He is only 15 years old and he has similar interests to me. We both like coastal outdoors, nature and imagining things as we walk or explore nature. He wrote his book based on his experience and imagination of the Kapiti Coast.
I really enjoyed the Books Alive event and would like to thank Mrs Hunt for taking us. The workshop had lots of information that I learned from and also gave me so much inspiration and fed my imagination.
Charlie L…..I really enjoyed the day because I got to meet some authors and illustrators. One of my favourite parts was getting hot chocolate!! We were very lucky!
My favourite author was Arlo Kelly because his book sounds really amazing and it's inspiring to know that you can be anything you want to be no matter how young you are. I also really liked Rose Northey, the illustrator of “The Lighthouse Princess”.
I would really love to read “Echo”, "Kidnap at Mystery Island" and “Below”.
My favourite presentation was the panel of authors because we got to ask questions and there were lots of authors at the same time. Thanks for a great day.
