Donna McDonald - Principal's Note

Mai i te Kopae ki te Urupa, tatou ako tonu ai - From the cradle to the grave, we are forever learning.
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
It was a great pleasure to attend the Rotary and Porirua City Leadership Awards on Monday and celebrate two of our students who were nominated for their commitment to 'service above self'. Mila Robinson and Isaac Duncan were both very deserving recipients of this award. Unfortunately Isaac was unable to attend due to Covid, however, we will celebrate with both Isaac and Mila as a school when he returns.
Our School/Parish Mass is this Sunday at 9.30am. Mass will be followed by morning tea and a sausage sizzle so we hope to see as many of you there as possible. Please bring a small plate of food to share. Children will need to meet on the court at 9.15a.m. and there will be parking avaliable on the field if needed. Please don't park over the entrance to the field gate.
On Tuesday, we remembered the feast day of St. Mary McKillop. This year marks the 150th year since Mary embarked on her journey to Rome seeking approval from the Pope himself for the Josephite Rule of Life. As a Josephite School, this is particularly relevant to us.
St. Mary McKillop stands as an example of great courage and trust in her living out of God’s loving and compassionate care for those in need. May we learn from Mary and may she intercede for us.
Unfortunately, we seem to have another round of Covid going through the school, along with the seasonal bugs that we expect at this time of year. We have several teachers and Gina who have tested positive, so please be patient with us.
Any child who has vomitting or diarrhorea needs to be kept away from school for at least 48hrs from their last symptoms.
Also, as it has been a while since we have had to follow Covid protocols, here are a couple of reminders of what is required:
- Anyone who tests positive must still isolate for 7 days (day 0 is the first day you tested positive, or the day your symptoms started whichever is first).
- Household contacts do not have to isolate but need to test every day for 5 days.
We have spare RAT tests and masks avaliable at school if anyone needs them.
Please remember to let your child's teacher and the Office know if they will be away for medical tests or illness.
N.B. Our telephone system has decided to catch a bug as well and is currently playing up. We are hoping to have it sorted by tomorrow and have diverted the line temporarily. If you are able to email absences for tomorrow that would be greatly appreciated.
Wishing you all a happy and safe weekend.
Nga mihi,
Donna McDonald - Principal

Gospel Reflection - Sunday, 13th August, 2023
Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Matthew 14: 22-33
God made a promise long ago to his Chosen People that He would always be with them and would always love them. This promise seems too good to be true. Yet, God fulfilled that promise by sending His only Son, Jesus. Jesus, in turn, sent the Holy Spirit to be with us at all times. In this Sunday’s Gospel, we hear that Peter experienced doubt too and started to sink, walking on the water towards Jesus. Jesus reached out His hand and helped him up. We are reminded through this Gospel that Jesus is always there to help us when we feel overwhelmed or experience doubt. We just need to remember that He is always there reaching his hand towards us; it is not too good to be true.
School/Parish Mass - Sunday, 13th August
Mass will be followed by a shared morning tea so please bring a small plate to add to the other eats. There is also a sausage sizzle for the children, provided by the Parish and School.
PLEASE NOTE: There will be parking available on the field so please don't park in front of the gate which will mean that no one can get in.
NETBALL
St T’s Angels vs St T’s Ferns, score 23 - 6. Great game played by all! PoD Amelia Ho for creating space to receive the ball and driving it down court. We had two Magic Moments this week: Hannah Murphy for great moving on court and outstanding shooting and Brooke Barber for an awesome intercept and also special thanks to Brooke also for filling in for us this week.
Unfortunately our team lost 0 - 4.
Frankie Dolan was the Player of the Day. Great work from everyone :) with lots of great passing and team work.
Anyone out there with green fingers?
If you or anyone you know is interested in doing some gardening here at school for a couple of hours a week, please contact Gina at Office for more information.

We are well-resourced and have planned and spontaneous activities that include baking, arts and crafts, quiet areas, science and outdoor physical/sporty activities.
Where? Parish Hall
When? 2.45pm – 6.00pm. Monday - Friday in Terms 1 and 4 (Summer terms) and 2.45p.m. - 5.30p.m. in Terms 2 & 3 (Winter terms)
Cost? $20 per day with a discount of 10% for siblings.
Early pick up (4p.m.) - $10 per child
There will be no fee for sickness. Children can be booked in full time, on selected days or on a casual basis as well.
Our After School Care continues to grow in numbers. We have been reviewing procedures and will be implementing a few changes from the start of Term 3. These changes will be posted on the website and emailed to all families.
As we need to arrange extra staffing and food when our numbers go over certain ratios, we ask that the following procedure is followed:
- Please let us know by 12.30p.m., via email to ASC asc2021@stp.school.nz or text (021-08563504) to Hannah if your child is not attending a session they have been booked in to. If your child is sick on a day they are booked in please add ASC when you email the office so that they can be removed from the roll for that day. Due to the costs involved with increased numbers, there will be a $10 non-notification fee applied.
- New winter hours - in Term 2 and 3 we will finish at 5.30p.m.
Enrolment forms are available from both the School Office or Hannah, the programme manager, in the Hall.
The booking facility is on our website.
