Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Our first night of Parent/Teacher interviews on Tuesday was well supported. We have another opportunity next Tuesday so please book in a time to see your child/children's teacher if you haven't already. These interview slots are a valuable opportunity for you to talk with your child's teacher about progress and achievement and goals for the remainder of the year.
Yesterday we held our Term 3 Powhiri and Mass of Welcome. Thank you to all those who came to welcome our new children and their whanau and to Fr Andrew for celebrating Mass. Thank you also to the wonderful group who co-ordinated the morning tea.
The winter weather has definitely settled in this term and has brought with it many wintery bugs. To help keep the spread of bugs to a minimum, please keep your children home if they have any flu-like symptoms including coughing, a runny nose or high tempratures.
Wishing you all a happy and safe weekend.
Nga mihi,
Donna McDonald - Principal

Gospel Reflection - Sunday, 6th August, 2023
The Transfiguration of the Lord
Matthew 17:1-9
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus is transfigured on the mountain with His disciples Peter, James and John bearing witness. When Jesus was transfigured, His face shone and His clothes became a white light. This was an affirming experience in the life of Jesus. Although the disciples didn’t fully understand what was happening at the time after Jesus' death and resurrection, they shared the details of this special memory, deepening their own faith and affirming that Jesus truly was the Son of God. We can reflect on this Gospel ourselves and allow it to affirm our own belief in Jesus.
Last week, we were lucky to work with Viv and Tim and we researched Ancient Egypt, its fascinating artefacts and the trial of the underworld. We also learnt about the gods like Anubis and Osiris and Seth and Horus, the son of Osiris. It was heaps of fun! We went into an imagined world and we were archaeologists. We found an ancient pharaoh who was assassinated by someone who was paid by the brother of the pharaoh. The trial was the weighing of the heart and the feather of truth. The dead person's soul had their heart pulled out by Anubis. Anubis put the heart on the other platform of the scale. The gods asked questions about the pharaoh's life. They had to live a good life and not lie. If they lied or did not live a good life, they were swallowed by Ammut, the monster with a crocodile head, a lion front body and the back body of a hippopotamus. If they got through they were greeted by Horus and into the underworld. Come and see some of our work on Friday at Assembly. Enter if you even dare…!!!!

Our Parish celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation was celebrated last Sunday. Please continue to keep these children and their families in your prayers.
Parent/Teacher Interviews - Tuesday, 8th August
To book your interview time, please go to www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and use the event code mhbgc.
It is an expectation that all families meet with their child's classroom teacher.
School/Parish Mass - Sunday, 13th August
Mass will be followed by a shared morning tea so please bring a small plate to add to the other eats. There is also a sausage sizzle for the children, provided by the Parish and School.
The Young Vinnies were baking muffins to add to the food parcels that the Parish will be sending out. Great work, everybody and also thanks to the Young Vinnies' helpers, Rosaleen and Elizabeth.
Disappointingly, it's necessary once again, to remind everyone that it is illegal to park in any disability car park unless you have a valid permit. In the interest of those families who do need to use them, please reconsider doing this. Thanks to all the drivers who obey the road rules at all times.
Final call for cookbook recipes - you have until Sunday, 6th so please send yours in!
The Parents & Friends Committee are currently working on creating St. Theresa’s first ever School Cookbook. This will be made up of family favourite recipes from our School and Parish community. As we have had an influx of families join our school community over the past year, we would like to give our new families a chance to submit a recipe too - whether it’s your child’s favourite chicken meal or a secret sauce that has been passed down generations.
You can enter your recipe details here or take a picture of the recipe and email it to: sttheresascookbook@gmail.com
It would be amazing to have a little blurb or story with your recipe but if words fail you, then just send the recipe through on its own.
We have received an abundance of brownie recipes already and our cookbook committee feels that we have reached our limit in that category. Therefore, we kindly ask you to refrain from submitting brownie recipes. We greatly appreciate your understanding in this matter and encourage you to explore other culinary delights that your family is known for.
The cut off for recipe submissions is Sunday, 6th August, 2023. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact Bronagh Barber via email at bronagh.barber@gmail.com
