Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
This week we celebrate Samoan Language Week. Our cultural leaders have been working hard with classes across the school and we look forward to our annual Sasa battle on Friday after Assembly.
The theme for Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa - Samoa Language Week 2023 is ‘Mitamita i lau gagana, maua’a lou fa’asinomaga’ which means ‘Be proud of your language and grounded in your identity’.
This week is Aotearoa Immunisation week. It’s a reminder that vaccinations can protect ākonga and whānau/families from preventable diseases such as measles, mumps, rubella, whooping cough and the flu.

Gospel Reflection - Sunday, 4th June
Trinity Sunday
John 3:16-18
We have now returned to Ordinary Time in the Liturgical Year however, this week and next are designated to solemnities - special days that call our attention to central mysteries of our faith. This Sunday is Trinity Sunday and we celebrate the mystery of the Holy Trinity, one God in three persons.
The notion of three persons in one God is difficult for anyone to comprehend. Though God is ultimately unknowable, we can know aspects of God through our experiences of the Creator, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
This Sunday’s Gospel talks about why and how God acts. We come to know who God is by what He does for us. The Gospel tells us that God sent Jesus to save the world because God loves the world. The Holy Spirit is given to us so that we might believe that God loves us and wants to give us eternal life. The Trinity is a way to talk about how we experience God’s love for us.
A message from our Presiding Member, Board of Trustees
Kia ora,
I wanted to send a message to our community to support our teachers at a time when their union is in negotiations relating to working conditions, teacher support and pay. This is an essential part of any employment and organisation. Yesterday the NZEI organised a Paid Union Meeting for the afternoon so our teachers could consider the latest offer from the Ministry of Education. This was in place of a full day strike and only came about over the weekend. The process to get to this point has been drawn out and no doubt caused a lot of stress for our teachers. I am aware, as a parent myself, that the union meetings or strikes do cause disruption to us. However, I fully support our teachers in being able to attend this meeting or strike if required. Strike action or having our teachers attend union meetings are a vital tool for unions to be able to ensure that our children get the best education by ensuring our teachers are as well supported as they can be. It isn’t limited to the teaching profession.
We know that at St. Theresa’s, our teachers are outstanding and give our kids the best start to their education that we could ask for. We fully support them and hope that they can get the best outcome from these negotiations and continue to be able to provide the high level of teaching to our children.
Nga mihi,
Mike Tohill – Presiding Member – Board of Trustees
This week, we welcome Caterina (Catu) Giacosa and Margaret Higgins to Room 1. Catu is the daughter of Carlo and Gisela and sister of Fran in Room 8 and Margaret is the daughter of David and Christine and the sister of Edward (Room 10) and Klara (Room 8). We wish many blessings on you both and lots of great school memories.
Rm 8 – Getting into Books!
Room 8 children have been growing their love for books! Through the writing focus, the children looked at book reviews and learned the key writing features. Together they drafted a book review for the beautiful ANZAC story, The Harmonica. Then Mrs. Hunt spent two sections with the children, teaching them how to use the School Learning Hub Search Catalogue. Over the past few weeks, they selected their own books to write reviews on. The children really loved publishing their work on the library website for everyone to see. Come along to our Assembly tomorrow to hear a few of the children read their book reviews.
St T’s Angels vs Papakowhai Ferns: We lost 5 - 7. A great game this week; the team worked really hard and came back fighting in the second half to score lots of goals. The Player of the Day went to Bella Adams for outstanding defence, keeping her eye on the ball and running for every intercept. Magic Moment to Lashini Jeyathas for sticking with her partner and getting between them and the ball. A shout out to Scarlett Patil who played an extra game for the Angels – thank you. Well done, team!!
St. Ts Saints vs Hampton Hill Jump Shot
Tough game this week!
POD - Brooke Barber for great moving into space!
Magic Moment - Angelo Meo for great intercepts!
