Mai i te Kopae ki te Urupa, tatou ako tonu ai - From the cradle to the grave, we are forever learning.
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and whanau of the young man who so tragically lost his life this week. We also pray for the whole community of Whangārei Boys' High at this most terrible time.
Last week, I asked you to save the date on the 25 July for a parent information evening that focussed on keeping all of our children safe online. The Board of Trustees discussed this last night and are very supportive of funding the cost of this parent evening. This is a significant outlay however, we beleive it is money well spent for the ongoing safety of our children. Please take a minute to look at this short clip about the evening and check you have marked that date in your calendar. More details will come very soon on venue, possible child care, etc.
Yesterday we drew the winners for our Mother's Day raffle and 5 lucky people have been contacted to collect their prize. A huge thank you once again, to Libby Baker for the work she puts into running these raffles. Thank you also to all our families who were able to sell tickets for the raffle.
Don't forget there are still chances to win 1 of the 10 children's surprise raffles that will be drawn at Assembly on Friday.
Have a great weekend.
Nga mihi,
Donna McDonald - Principal

Gospel Reflection - Sunday, 14th May
Sixth Sunday of Easter
John 14:15-21
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus tells His disciples at the Last Supper that although He will be crucified, He will not abandon them and He will send down the Holy Spirit who is our advocate. We are reminded in this Gospel that the Holy Spirit is a consoler or helper and that we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit when we are baptised. It is important for us to remember that we can reach out to the Holy Spirit to help us understand God’s love for us and aid us in following Jesus.
Board Talk - Mike Tohill, Presiding Member of the Board of Trustees
Kia ora.
I would like to start by acknowledging the events that unfolded at Whangārei Boys High School earlier this week. This is an absolute tragedy and devastating for that community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the whanau and friends of the young man who lost his life and to all the staff at Whangārei Boys High School. Kua wheturangitia koe – Return, take your place amongst the stars along with your ancestors that adorn the sky.
At our Board meeting last night, we had a presentation on the New Zealand Curriculum Refresh that is underway. This is a two to three year process and we are at very early stages but it was useful to see the early stages of the refresh plan. This won’t change the fundamentals of what our children are learning but is a positive progression and development on what our amazing teachers and support staff are doing.
We also talked about the upcoming presentation signalled in the last newsletter by Rob and Zareen Cope of Our Kids Online. We have booked Rob and Zareen to speak to our school community on Tuesday, 25 July, 2023. I would encourage as many people as possible to attend. This will give us as parents, some really valuable tips and tools to help navigate through bringing up kids in this digital age. We are really happy to be able to support this for our community so make sure you come along.
Look after yourselves and your family and stay safe.
Nga mihi,
Mike Tohill, Presiding Member – St. Theresa’s School Plimmerton Board of Trustees.
Mother's Day wishes for Sunday
We take this opportunity to wish blessings on all mothers, including those who take on the role of being one. We hope you have a happy and memorable day.
On the 25th of April it was ANZAC Day. The school gathered round to remember the people who died in war. Room 10 made some poems and letters about WW1. We have also been busy doing the WONDER Project. We have been learning about Rocket science and launching rockets of our own. We will be working like engineers to design and build our very own rockets. Keep an eye on the newsletter for later in the term.

Yellow lines on the curve at the top of James Street
In the interests of safety and after a request from us to place broken yellow lines on the curve/bulge by the field gate, Porirua City Council has sent us consultation feedback forms. If you would like to offer your support for this or want to know a bit more, please contact Gina. There is a form that needs to be completed which is available at the School Office or it can be emailed to you. All feedback needs to be submitted to the PCC by email by tomorrow, Friday, 12th May.
Wheels Day - TOMORROW, Friday, 12th May
WHEELS DAY IS HAPPENING TOMORROW! Children are welcome to bring their bikes, scooters, roller blades, hobby horses, prams - anything with wheels! Each class will have a scheduled time during the day. If they bring a bike, scooter, skateboards, roller blades, etc., they must wear a helmet.

As we currently have 3 teaching staff away with Covid and there are lots of 'bugs' around at the moment, we ask that parents consider testing their children if they are unwell. As per instructions from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health, anyone who tests positive needs to isolate for 7 days. If you require tests please let us know as we have some here at school.
Also, there are cases of measles and pertussis across New Zealand. Now is a good time to check your children are fully vaccinated.
Kids' Bonus Raffle - only $2 per ticket and 10 chances to win!
* Only $2 each
* Buy as many tickets as you like
* There is a bottle of wine that goes with each of the 10 prizes!
