Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Welcome back everyone to Term 2. I hope you all had a great Easter and school holiday break. It seems a bit strange having the children back on a Wednesday, however we were really grateful for the opportunity to meet with the other schools from our Kahui Ako on Monday for a day of professional learning. Our thanks go to the organising team, especially Pauline MacLean and Jo Beasley who were a huge part of the planning through their Across School Teacher roles.
On Tuesday morning, a group of keen children and their families represented St. Theresa's at the Porirua ANZAC Day Service. It was a very cold morning but the children were uncomplaining and very respectful of the significance of the ceremony. Thank you to those people who supported us to show our respects.
We started the week off with a whole school ANZAC liturgy, led by Room 10. Thanks to the teachers for co-ordinating this and to Ian Capewell for restoring our ANZAC crosses.
Room 6 were excited to see their new furniture that arrived over the holidays. Mrs. Hunt has repurposed their old furniture to use on the deck of the Learning Hub so that the children can enjoy this lovely spot even more.
Nga mihi,
Donna McDonald - Principal
Kia pai too raa whakataa
The fourth Sunday of Easter is sometimes called Good Shepherd Sunday because in the Gospel reading for this Sunday, Jesus talks about what it means to be the shepherd of the sheep. He also compares Himself to the gate that sheep go through to get into the sheepfold, the yard where they stay at night for safety. In this Sunday’s Gospel, He says that a good shepherd recognises his sheep and that the sheep recognize and follow the shepherd. Today we still talk about shepherds when we describe Christian leaders.
Good Christian leaders have a good relationship with Jesus. They know that Jesus is the gate for the sheep. By knowing Jesus and faithfully following Him, Christian leaders help the Church to follow Jesus. In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us that there is only one way to abundant life and that way is through Him.
In Room 3, we have been learning about why ANZAC Day is such a special day. We know that lots of people died in the wars but that some also made it home. We shared stories of great-grandparents and great-uncles who fought in the war. We know that poppies grew on the fields where soldiers died and we use the flower to help us remember them.
A very warm welcome to the following families who have joined our St. T's school community:
Erin Corbett, daughter of Lucy;
Eryn Roales, son of Timothy and Emilyn;
Leane van Rensburg, daughter of Marnus and Maria;
Dian Lemmon, son of Dean and Amanda-Lee.
Our best wishes to all these students and we hope they have many happy and memorable years here at our lovely wee school!
School Photographs - change of date
Although this is in the calendar, just a wee heads up that due to unforeseen circumstances, we have had to change the date for the taking of school photos to Wednesday, 21st June. More details and reminders will following in the upcoming weeks.
Pizza Fridays in Term 2 - Everything you need to know
In Term 2, there will be pizza available for 9 weeks, starting on Friday, 5th May. NO PIZZA ON THE FIRST FRIDAY (28th April) AS IT IS A SHORT WEEK.
The full procedure details for ordering are attached.
We need all our Mother’s Day raffles to start coming back to the office please - sold or unsold but preferably the latter! It would be great if you could send the butts back in a named envelope. You are welcome to pay by cash, Eftpos at the Office or directly into our school bank account (12 3254 0109325 00) with 'Raffle' as the reference. We have more books available if anyone would like extras and as always, there is a prize for the family who sells the most. The raffle will be drawn in Week 3 so good luck to everyone - you could just be one of the 5 - yes, FIVE! - lucky winners. Thank you for all your support with this initiative .
The winning reward for PB4L tokens is that we will have a Wheels Day. This is scheduled for Friday, 5th May. Children are welcome to bring their bikes, scooters, roller blades, hobby horses, prams - anything with wheels! Each class will have a scheduled time during the day. If they bring a bike, scooter, skateboards, roller blades, etc., they must wear a helmet.
