Mai i te Kopae ki te Urupa, tatou ako tonu ai - From the cradle to the grave, we are forever learning.
Happy New School Year everybody. It was so lovely to have the children back and to hear and read all their holiday stories. It was also so cool to see how excited they were to see their school friends again and experience those first few days in their new environment. We are well and truly back now though and have a very full calendar already this term. Please keep checking the community calendar so you don't miss out on anything.
Tomorrow is our annual school Beach Picnic which is a highlight of the term for everyone. All the information you need is in this newsletter and I look forward to seeing some of you down at the beach.
We also have the return of our very popular major fundraiser, renamed 'March Madness Fair', so please look out for the comms coming out around this event.
This year we welcome Ms. Rachel Jackson onto our staff in a part-time capacity and we also welcome back Mrs. Angela Cole who will also be working part-time for us this year.
As you may have read or heard through the media our teachers are currently negotiating their collective agreement. All teachers are required to attend a Paid Union Meeting in February and the meeting for our area is on Tuesday, 28th February. As all teachers who are members of the Union are required to attend this meeting, we are asking that children be collected from school at lunchtime on that day. If you are unable to collect your child/ren or they attend After School Care, there will be supervision at school for those children.
Have a lovely weekend.
Nga mihi,
Donna McDonald - Principal

Gospel Reflection - Sunday, 12th February, 2023
Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time - Matthew 5:17-37
In this Sunday's Gospel, Jesus is giving His Sermon on the Mount. He talks about how the laws are a minimum requirement for people to abide by but that he has come to teach us to go beyond the minimum required of us. The law requires people not to kill one another; Jesus teaches us to go beyond this, to not get angry with one another at all and to respond consistently with love. We can reflect on this Gospel by thinking of the times when we have perhaps done only the bare minimum, especially in our interactions with others. How can we extend ourselves to go beyond this?
A very special welcome (and welcome back) to our new families at the start of this year. We hope you all enjoy your time here at St. T's and that many happy memories are made.
Remy Fischer and his parents, Andreas and Samara;
Charlie Pidcock (brother of Sawyer) and his parents Laurence and Shailie;
Madalynn Osborne (sister of Lorelei) and her parents Anita and Jonathan;
Mia Gallant and her parents, Kehan and Christopher;
Enzo Frade and his parents, Mitchell and Mandy;
Scarlett (welcome back!) and Brooklyn Patil and their parents Rahul and Caroline;
The Dolan family - Clara and Frankie have slotted right back into it!
The Vannathy family - we're so glad to have Jannah-Grace and Adonai back with us!
Contact information update forms - please return asap
Firstly, thank you so much to all the families who have already returned their checked and/or updated forms. If you haven't sent yours in, please do so as it is imperative that we have up to date contact details for all families, especially in case of an emergency. These forms were sent out to all families on the first day of the school term.
Beach Picnic - Friday 10 February
We will be leaving school at 10:15am. and need parent helpers to walk with us to the beach and some who can be in the water for a short period of time while children swim. Please email your child's teacher if you are able to help on the day, either walking to the beach and/or active supervision in the sea. We welcome all whanau to join us.
*Children can wear their PE uniform (or casual clothes for our New Entrants who haven't had to purchase PE gear yet) and something warm to wear over the top
*Sunhat
*Sunscreen
*Good walking shoes
*Togs/towel/goggles
*Drink bottle and plenty of food to snack on during the day
*Buckets/spades, etc. (These need to be named and will be your child's responsibility)
You can collect your child from the beach at the end of the day or on return to school. We will leave the beach at approximate 2p.m.
Parking/stopping in James Street at pick up or drop off times
This year, we have already received complaints from our neighbours here in James Street, about inconsiderate parking.
In the interests of everyone in our community, PLEASE remember to follow the road rules at all times. You may not park or stop anywhere on a yellow line, especially not over a driveway, regardless of how long you think you will be there.
March Madness meeting - PLEASE come along!
There is a March Madness meeting next Thursday, 16th February from 7p.m. in the staffroom. All are welcome to come along and join in the discussion, planning and fun. Drinks and nibbles will be provided. This is also a great way to meet other parents/families and over the years, many friendships have been forged at these meetings - you should definitely come along!
March Madness - it's all happening!
We also need My Food Bag boxes for sorting purposes.
All contributions for March Madness can be left in the Green Room in the Junior block.
Thank you to all those families who have already contributed.
We know how much everyone loves Pizza Fridays and for this to continue, we need some help. If there are any parents available on a Friday for a couple of hours around lunchtime, please email Lucy Kerr or Yvette Tohill on pandf@stp.school.nz and they can answer any of your questions too. If we get enough offers, it might be that you would only be required to help once a term. Easy as!
School start and finish times reminder
The bell times are as follows:
Start of school: 8.50a.m.
Morning tea: 10.55 - 11.15a.m.
Lunch: 12.40 - 1.30p.m.
End of school: 2.45p.m.
We ask that children not be dropped off before 8.20a.m. as although there are staff on site, some teachers have meetings, etc. and other work to attend to so supervision for children is not available until that time.
