Mai i te Kopae ki te Urupa, tatou ako tonu ai - From the cradle to the grave, we are forever learning.
Kia ora St. Theresa's whanau,
How quickly this term has flown by and the year has ended in a flash. It has been a turbulent year with a snap lockdown, Alert Level changes, a vaccination mandate, moving back into the Junior Block and all the other hurly burly of school life. We all watched nervously this week as the rain continued to pour down and we were so fortunate to not be flooded again - that really would have topped things off. Through everything we have had thrown at us over the past 2 years we have been blessed with such a supportive community and have felt the benefit of having such an amazing home-school partnership.
Over the past 2 weeks we have had a number of outside agencies in school delivering a range of activities including cricket, swimming, snorkelling and First Aid. We are all so proud of the way our children have behaved during these visits. Without exception, everyone has commented on how polite, kind, settled and engaged our children are. They even enjoyed the 20+ 'God bless you' that they received with each new class! This is something you as parents should be very proud of - well done to you all for nurturing such amazing little humans.
This term we farewelled Angela Cole our DRS. I would like to thank her again for her 10 years of dedicated service to St Theresa's. Angela has left big shoes to fill and we are grateful that we were able to appoint Olivia McKennie to the role this term. I'm sure she will fit those shoes perfectly.
Vinny Thompson, our Deaf Communicator is also leaving at the end of this year. Vinny has worked with us over the past 6 years. We thank her for the support she has given to St Theresa's as we learned about NZSL and Deaf Culture.
Our end of year celebration begins on Tuesday, 14 December at 11a.m. This includes the retelling of the Christmas story in which all of the children will participate. It is sad that we can't all be together to enjoy this time however, we are very grateful to Louis and Breigh Sutherland and Bradley Francis for organising the filming of this event. A Vimeo link will be sent out to all families.
We will also celebrate our final Mass on Wednesday, 15 December at 11a.m. Again, it is unfortunate that we can't have you all there however, teachers will post some photographs on SeeSaw. It is always a very emotional time for our leavers as we sing the Irish Blessing.
School finishes at 12.30p.m. on Wednesday, 15 December.
As we head into the Christmas season, I am aware of the many things we are grateful for and although it has been tough at times, there is always hope for the future. Our Advent wreath candles symbolise hope, love, joy and peace and are the perfect preparation for our hearts and minds as we prepare for Christmas.
We wish you all a very happy Christmas and summer break. Safe travels if you are heading away.
Meri Kirihimete me te Hape Nuu la!

Gospel reading for Sunday, 12th December, 2021
Thanks to your generosity - 13 additional mystery gifts!
Due to the amazing generosity of our school community, we have an additional THIRTEEN mystery gifts to raffle off! If the children would like to go into the draw to win one to put under their tree, all they need to do is bring $2 to their classroom any day this week. In fact, they can buy as many tickets as they like for $2 per ticket! We will be drawing the winners on Monday during school time. All proceeds go directly to our school.
As a bonus, these mystery boxes also come with an accompanying bottle of wine that would need to be collected by an adult from the office. You'll need to get in quickly and good luck everyone!
Parumoana Interschools Speech Competition was held last Friday, 3rd December. Ava Duncan represented St. Theresa's and was placed 3rd in the Year 5/6 category. Massive congratulations to her for this achievement. We're all very proud of you, Ava!
Last week Rooms 6, 7 and 8 made cupcakes to raise money for children and families at Christmas time. We made chocolate flavoured cupcakes and sold them for $2 each. The cupcakes were really easy to make and were delicious. The icing was very sweet and the jaffa was delicious.
Yummy Stickers initiative - a great outcome!
Thanks to those families who continue to send in their Yummy Apple stickers. We have been allocated $250 worth of sports gear - how awesome is that?!
On behalf of all the staff, we would like to thank every one of our families for their continued support and care of us and our school. We really appreciate all that you do for us - so many of the events, activities, etc., simply wouldn't happen without your input and help. We wish you all a very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Please take care on the roads if you're travelling and enjoy the break.
Do you need After School Care on Wed. (12.30 - 6p.m.), Thursday and Friday next week?
We are offering parents the opportunity to enrol their children for next Thursday and Friday following school closing on Wednesday. The cost for Wednesday afternoon is $20 and runs from 12.30 - 6p.m. The Thursday and Friday programme will run from 8.30a.m. - 3.30p.m. and costs $60 per child, per day. These programmes are open to all children, even if they haven't attended before. Payment needs to be made at the time of registering your interest (into our usual School bank account 12 3254 0109325 00). The If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please contact Keller on 022-1667997 or email asc2021@stp.school.nz
Pihinga Pod (Rooms 6, 7 & 8) would like to thank our WHOLE SCHOOL COMMUNITY for their support of the cupcake baking initiative. As part of their Dramatic Inquiry, a whole lot of learning took place prior to the actual baking and icing of the cupcakes. The total raised was over $500 which included a very generous donation from one family. This money is going to the Wellington City Mission who provides care and support to many families. What a fantastic effort by all those involved and of course, to all of you who bought these delicious treats.
Pool keys for sale for the summer season
Our School pool is now available for use for the summer season (December - March). Keys can be purchased at a cost of $100 per key. St. T's After School Care is up and running - come check it out!
You will be aware that the St Theresa's After School Care programme is now under the management of the Board of Trustees. There are very few noticeable changes and we would like to reassure you that the programme is continuing to be run to the very high standards we have become used to and without any staff changes, this provides continuity and stability.
We have kept the fee structure the same as before, $20.00 per day with a 10% discount for siblings. However, there will be no fee for sickness. Children can be booked in full time, on selected days or on a casual basis as well.
Enrolment forms are available from both the School Office or Keller in the hall.
The booking facility is on our website.
