Mai i te Kopae ki te Urupa, tatou ako tonu ai - From the cradle to the grave, we are forever learning.
Kia ora St. Theresa's whanau,
What a fantastic day the children have had today at our annual 'Bring and Buy'. Thanks to the Rooms 9 and 10 children and the staff for co-ordinating this very popular day and to the parents and whanau for supporting the children's ideas.
It is so great to see the children negotiating and bartering for their purchases and working out how to be a decerning shopper with their remaining coins. Thank you also to our whole community for cleaning out cupboards, etc. and donating unwanted toys, books, etc. Fr Andrew couldn't resist popping in for a look and to throw a few water balloons.
Congratulations to the children who will be receiving their First Holy Communion on Sunday. Our prayers and blessings are with you and your families at this very special time.
Next week we have our last powhiri for 2021. Unfortunately due to current COVID restrictions we are unable to hold it in the Hall or celebrate Mass in the church.
We are however, planning on having our powhiri at 10am outside (weather permitting) and you are all very welcome to attend. Please observe current Level 2 restrictions and wear a mask, stay socially distanced and scan into one of the QR codes displayed around the school if you wish to come.
The Ministry of Education have given us more details on who is covered by the Public Health Order for Mandatory Vaccination. I have copied the relevant details into a table below, however if you require more information please email me at donna@stp.school.nz.
Type of role | Are they required to be vaccinated under the Public Health Order? |
Teachers, teacher aides, principals, administration staff, caretakers, cooks | Yes. These staff are required to be vaccinated as they may have contact with children or students and/or will be present at a time when children and students are also present. |
Learning support staff and other education agency staff (for example, Ministry of Education and ERO staff, NZQA exam invigilators) |
Yes. These staff are required to be vaccinated if they are visiting early learning services or schools to deliver a service that means they may have contact with children and students and/or will be present at a time when children and students are also present. |
School board members | Yes. The board member is required to be vaccinated if they may have contact with children or students or will be present at a time when children and students are also present. Otherwise, they are not required to be vaccinated. The board may want to consider a working arrangement that enables an unvaccinated board member to conduct business online and/or at a time that students will not be present (such as evening board meetings). |
Bus drivers (general) | No. General transport workers such as public bus drivers (including dedicated school services funded by regional councils) or train conductors are not required to be vaccinated as they are not employed or engaged by a school or hostel. |
After-school care services/out-of-hours music contracted by the school | Yes. Employees of a contracted service physically attending a school site when children or students are also present are required to be vaccinated. |
Parents, caregivers or volunteers at an education outside the classroom (EOTC), learning experiences outside the classroom (LEOTC) programme or excursion | Yes. These people are required to be vaccinated because these people are carrying out work (unpaid) at or for a school or hostel and they may have contact with children or students or will be present at a time when children and students are also present. |
Parents/caregivers dropping off, picking up, or settling children at a school or kura | No. As the Order only applies to workers and volunteers, not people who are visiting the school. |
Parents, caregivers and members of the community who are volunteers at the school, kura, or hostel | Yes. These people onsite are required to be vaccinated as they may have contact with children or students or will be present at a time when children and students are also present. If the volunteer is working offsite and will not have any contact with children or students as part of their role, then they are not required to be vaccinated. |
Parents or caregivers attending meetings or events on site (for example, parent-teacher interviews) | No. As the Order only applies to workers and volunteers, not people who are visiting the school or hostel. |
Student volunteers and students on placement | Yes. Those over the age of 12 are required to be vaccinated if they may have contact with children or students or will be present at a time when children and students are also present. |
General public using school facilities after hours (for example, playground, school pool) | No. The requirement to be vaccinated only applies to workers and volunteers. |
Have a great weekend and take care.

Gospel reading for Sunday, 7th November, 2021
Massive congratulations to Paul and Kate Deere and their boys Tobias (Room 4) and Fletcher. We wish them many blessings and good wishes on the birth of their wee baby girl. The whole St. T's community welcomes you.
Thank you for the contributions of cans for Friday's Inquiry Immersion. This term our enduring understanding is "Together we can achieve great things". Through our immersion, we were able to illustrate how if we all pull together, we can create something amazing and in this case it was stocking up the Foodbank with 370 cans. This also supports the Catholic Social Teaching aspect of working for the Common Good.
We are still currently under Level 2 restrictions/protocols. If you need to come on site during Level 2 please remember to:
- Wear a mask/face covering - please do not be offended if you are asked to wear a face mask and if you don't have one, please ask as we have spares.
- Scan in using the QR codes in classrooms - please do not sign your children in or out at the office.
- Consider using internet banking, email, telephone, etc. for payments and queries.
- If you or your child are sick, staying home is the best thing you can do to stop the spread of COVID-19.

St. T's After School Care is up and running - come check it out!
You will be aware that the St Theresa's After School Care programme is now under the management of the Board of Trustees. There are very few noticeable changes and we would like to reassure you that the programme is continuing to be run to the very high standards we have become used to and without any staff changes, this provides continuity and stability.
We have kept the fee structure the same as before, $20.00 per day with a 10% discount for siblings. However, there will be no fee for sickness. Children can be booked in full time, on selected days or on a casual basis as well.
Enrolment forms are available from both the School Office or Natalie in the hall.
The booking facility is on our website.
