Donna McDonald - Principal's Note
Hello, Kia ora, Talofa lava, Hola, Namaste, Mabuhay, Ciao, Kia Orana, Ahalan, Konnichiwa, Ni hao, Selam, Xin chao, Bonjour, Bula, Dzien/Dobry, Shalom, Dia duit, Mauri, Halo, Bom dia, Gidday, Guten Tag, Hej
Mai i te Kopae ki te Urupa, tatou ako tonu ai - From the cradle to the grave, we are forever learning.
Kia ora St. Theresa's whanau,
Thank you all for your support during our brief journey back into Level 2 restrictions. It was great to be able to continue with school as usual and we really appreciated your support with scanning in, etc. As we head into Term 3, we expect to see more coughs and colds, etc., so please continue to keep children home if they are unwell.
This week we welcomed the Bee Healthy Dental Van. It has been great to have them back this year as they were unable to visit last year due to COVID restrictions. This service ensures all of the children in our school are seen at least once a year and referred on if they need any further treatment. It was lovely to receive feedback from the dental nurses about how well-mannered our children are and we should all be very proud of them.
There is no Assembly tomorrow as we are practising for our Matariki celebrations next week. We will still have SPARKs of God and these will be published in our next newsletter. The children are working hard learning the waiata, etc., for Matariki and we hope you can all join us for our Hangi and celebrations.
Planning for our production "What if we all did that?", written by our own Jacky Chapman, is well underway. Auditions for the speaking parts have been held and special mention needs to go to the children in Rooms 9 and 10 for the thorough way they prepared themselves for these auditions and the very resilient way they worked through the process. We were blown away by the high calibre of acting and the ability to stay in role and as you can imagine, this made the selection process extrememly difficult (a great problem to have for a production!). We are excited to get started with rehearsals and preparations and look forward to sharing it with you at Southwards on the 7th and 8th September.
We are hoping the sun stays out for our first ever Colour Run tomorrow. Everything is planned for and in place for an awesome day. More details are in this newsletter and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow to cheer the children on.
Have a fabulous weekend.
kia pai tō rā whakatā!

Gospel reading for Sunday, 4th July, 2021
Welcome to a new student in Room 2!
This week, Elliot Reading started school in Room 2. He is the brother of Holly in Room 8 and the son of Matt and Jacqui. We wish him many happy years here at St. T's!
Thanks to Yvonne and Christine
A huge thanks to Yvonne Hasse and Christine Higgins for all the effort they put into our secondhand uniform sale this week. We really appreciate your hard work and support of our school.
St. Theresa's School Board of Trustees - Casual vacancy for a parent representative
A casual vacancy has occurred on the School Board for an elected parent representative. The Board has decided to fill the vacancy by selection. If 10% or more of eligible voters on the school roll ask the Board, within 28 days of this notice being published, to hold a by-election to fill the vacancy, then a by-election will be held.
Request for a by-election should be sent to:
Mike Tohill, Chairperson St. Theresa's School Board of Trustees chairperson@stp.school.nz by Thursday, 22nd July, 2021.
Get ready for the Colour Run tomorrow!
Whole School Colour Run - Friday 2 July (1.15pm - 2.35pm)
If you haven't already sent in your sponsorship form to school, please do so first thing tomorrow morning. Teachers will sign off the number of laps that your child runs and return them straight afterwards for children to take home and collect their sponsorship money.
Children may wear mufti to school and add dress ups for the run if they want. White works well for the paint run or they can just wear old clothes (recommended).
Please note that the colour powder is safe/non-toxic and will wash out of clothing. If your child does not wish to have any colour thrown at them then they are welcome to run around the activity. Teachers will go through this with their class.
Organisation:
Early Lunch 12-1pm (Course set-up)
1.15 - 1.40pm Pohutakawa Pod
1.44 - 2.10pm Pihinga Pod (Wait on Room 9 & 10 deck @ 1.35pm )
2.15 - 2.35pm Kakano Pod (Wait on Room 9 & 10 deck @ 2.05pm )
The whole school will gather outside Room 9 & 10 at the start of the event.
Matariki celebration update #3
Matariki with our school community is now only 1 week away! We have had an incredible response to our call for donations towards the hangi - thank you so much to the 28 families who have generously donated! These events cannot happen without your support and we are so grateful for your contributions. Please do have a look at the list below to see if there is anything you would be willing to contribute. We are making a special request for meat to go in our hangi. We really need a supply of meat such as mutton, lamb and pork! Contact Maria Gair via email mariabgair@gmail.com or text 021390041.
Everything you need to know about our Matariki celebration - come buy your tickets!
Our Te Iwa o Matariki celebration is not to be missed and promises to be a wonderful evening!
From 5 – 7p.m. on Thursday, 8th July
Come along and enjoy some kai, entertainment, our lantern parade, reflection and manaakitanga with our whole School whanau.
Tickets for the hangi can be bought from the Office and need to be presented on the night. Payment can be made in cash, via Eftpos at the Office or our usual bank account (12 3254 0109325 00) using Hangi as the reference.
Children up to Year 6 - $5 per plate and everyone else - $10 per plate.
In the spirit of kaitiaki, we ask that you bring your own plate, knife and fork.
We will also be selling cups of hot chocolate on the night, for a gold coin donation - please bring your own cup!
The Parents & Friends committee is a voluntary-run group, set up to help raise funds to support the School’s current needs. It is also a great opportunity to get involved and meet other people in our School community. The purpose for fundraising this year is to help upgrade our play areas and fund resources for our School. We have an annual target of $30,000.
As a result of Covid-19, we are unable to do our main annual fundraiser (St T’s Carnival in previous years) and so have planned a number of smaller fundraising opportunities for the coming months. We really need your support in helping us reach our target and appreciate all your support so far this year. At this point in time, we have managed to raise $8,000!
Our current focus this term is the Matariki celebration and hangi which takes place on Thursday, 8th July and we need your help to make this happen.
If you would like to find out more about getting involved in the Parents & Friends committee, please contact Lucy Kerr and Yvette Tohill on pandf@stp.school.nz
