Talofa lava St. Theresa's whanau,
This week we celebrate Samoan Language week.
This year’s theme for Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa - Samoa Language Week 2021 is Poupou le lotoifale. Ola manuia le anofale which means strengthen the posts of your house, for all to thrive.
When you’re building a foundation for a fale (house) it can’t have a weak foundation or posts. This is the same for the foundations of our families, schools and churches that play an important role in strengthening Gagana Samoa (the Samoan Language). Language is important for the foundations of our overall wellbeing.
The children have been learning prayers and basic greetings in Samoan this week and the senior students have been practising the sasa and teaching the younger ones.
We are also so proud of Nove and Eseta Ah Kuoi and Charles Tyrell, who have shared their language and culture with us through prayers and stories.
Last week we received news that the YMCA will be closing their After School Care from the end of Term 2. This was a surprise to us at school and we are currently looking at ways to support those families who require ASC. Please let me know if you are not currently enrolled but are thinking this is something you may require in the future, as it is helpful with our forward planning.

Gospel reading for Sunday, 6th June, 2021
The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
We have been learning about Mary McKillop. Mary was often sick but she kept on being kind and doing what God wanted. She has taught us to never see a need without doing something about it and to be kind to others even when it is hard.
Roti fundraiser -Get your order in by Tuesday, 8th June.
Parents & Friends are taking orders for delicious roti. Please sell to your friends and family too. An order form is attached.
Whanau afternoon of Matariki Lantern making
You are invited to a Whanau afternoon of Matariki Lantern making on Wednesday 16th June straight after school until 5pm. Come and join us in Room 1 for kai and a making session in preparation for Te Iwa o Matariki. We will be celebrating Matariki at school with a procession of our lanterns on the evening of Thursday 8th July. Further details closer to the time.
Room 7 have been making enclosures for an animal that lives in a zoo. We had to draw a plan and measure the perimeter of our model enclosure and then make it with all the right stuff like trees, grass, mud, somewhere for privacy and something for enrichment (like a tyre swing for the tigers or meat on a pole) so they can practise what they do in the wild. We have nearly finished them.
