Kia ora koutou katoa St Theresa's whanau,
Wow, what an amazing week this has been. It's hard to believe that this time last week we were looking forward to welcoming our senior children back from camp and were expecting to have our juniors settled comfortably in their new temporary accommodation.
The floods on Sunday brought sadness, uncertainty and anxiety. We were faced with not knowing how much damage we might discover and whether the rain would come back on Monday night and undo all the hard work cleaning up that had been done. This was expected and there was a real sense of 'no, not again'. This was the negative side.
The unintented and positive side of the floods was the overwhelming feeling of being a community, of feeling fully supported and the 'can do' attitude that everyone displayed. I was truly proud of our staff here at St Theresa's who on Monday, showed up armed with gumboots, brooms, waterblasters, smiles and a positive attitude, ready to get the place sorted for the children to be able to come back on Tuesday. We were humbled by the messages of support we received, the constant flow of food and the people who were able to drop their life for a bit and pitch in. We were also grateful to you, our wonderful community, who at very short notice were required to make new plans for the children for Monday. Thank you all so much.
The school is mostly back to normal, whatever that may be and we are moving at pace to tick off everything we need to have done by the 15 December. Yesterday the children enjoyed our St. Theresa's Got Talent show which is always a hit and was superbly hosted by our Year 6 leaders. We have our Prizegiving next Thursday, 10 December at 6pm in the Church, our final Assembly and fun day out next Friday, 11 December and of course, our final Mass on Tuesday, 15 December at 11am. Please check you have these dates firmly in your diaries.
Please also remember you have been invited to a Thank You morning tea at school on Monday, 7 December at 11am. This is a small way the staff here can thank you all for everything to do to support us throughout the year.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Kia pai tō rā whakatā
Donna
