Kia ora St. Theresa's Whanau,
It is great to be back this term in Level 1. We have an action-packed, exciting term ahead of us and with only 9 and a bit weeks, we will be flat out. It has been lovely to see many of you in the playground after school at pick up. Contact tracing is still very important and we ask that you please remember to use the QR code or sign in if you need to come into any of the buildings during this term.
Today the whole school participated in the National Shake Out Day at 9.30am. As we are in a tsunami zone, our procedure is to assemble on the court and move to higher ground in a long and strong shake. Due to the cold rain falling at 9.30am this morning, we modified the drill and talked to the children about the need to be flexible and follow instructions. This is a great opportunity to follow this up at home with a discussion on your home plan and perhaps practise this.
Tomorrow we are again joining a growing number of schools across Aotearoa to support Pink Shirt Day. Pink Shirt Day has been celebrated annually across the globe since 2007 and across Aotearoa since 2009. The importance of creating an environment where diversity is celebrated and everyone can feel safe, valued and respected, perfectly aligns with our school SPARK values and is the main driver for us participating.
Yesterday I met with the architect, contractor and Sarita Smit from the Archdiocese of Wellington to discuss our Junior Block refurbishment. This work is funded and managed by the ADW and comes directly from attendance dues paid by all 42 Catholic schools in the Wellington Diocese. We have been informed that work will begin on 23 November and will take most of Term 1, 2021. This is a huge project and we are very grateful to the ADW. We are currently working through options with the Parish office for rehousing our junior classes and we will be communicating with you throughout the process. Our community has shown over the years through floods, earthquakes and the COVID pandemic that we are flexible and supportive of each other. Thank you in advance for your support with this. The outcome will be well worth all of our efforts.
Have an amazing weekend and don't forget, if you haven't already voted we have an official polling booth here at school on Saturday.

PINK SHIRT/MUFTI DAY TOMORROW for a GOLD COIN!
In Aotearoa New Zealand, Pink Shirt Day works to create schools, workplaces, communities and whānau where everyone feels safe, valued and respected.
Come to school wearing something PINK or any mufti and bring along your gold coin donation.
Our world famous (in Plimmerton) Disco is happening on Friday, 23rd October!
We know it's been a long time since we first sent out Disco info, so here are some reminders:
Years 1 and 2: 5pm - 6.30pm
Years 4, 5 and 6: 7pm - 8.30pm
Year 3s: Choose either slot
Children are required to be signed in by their parent/caregiver upon arrival. You will need to leave a contact number in case we need to contact you. You are not required to stay for the duration but if you leave, please keep your phone with you in case we need to call. At the end of the Disco, we also ask you to sign your children out, so we know they have left with their parent/caregiver.
Children will get an American hotdog, cold drink of water, glow stick and our amazing new DJ to entertain them. There will be more food to purchase (lollies, chippies, etc.) as well as glow products. The glow products sell for between $1and $5 and include glow sticks, bracelets, rings, hair extensions and batons. If you are giving your child/ren any extra money on the night, could you please give them COINS if possible?
You're welcome to stay and be part of the night. For those who are staying, there will be a 'quietish' area where you can sit and enjoy a cuppa - Sarah Davies will be there to welcome you!
We are so excited to welcome Florence Pham to our School community. Arnie, Rachel and Leo - we wish you everything of the very best and send lots and lots of love.
Our second new baby is Jalen Sichampanakhone, son of Kare and Susie and brother of Kyle and Zara. We also welcome him to our School community and look forward to meeting him.
This week, we warmly welcome Amelie Gear to Room 3. Amelie is the sister of Fergus in Room 1 and the daughter of Jonathon and Alijca. As always, we wish you many happy years as part of this amazing St. T's community.
More artists in the making.......

In their first game, St T's Titanics went down to Plimmerton 16-0 (8-0 goals) after Norths defaulted. Great effort from the team first up with most of them never having played Miniball before. Fortunately Hannah Tohill stepped in to help us field a team of 5 players. James Tohill was player of the day with strong defence and quick breaks in offence.
Awesome first miniball game by the Thunderbirds. We won 6 to 4. Player of the day was Felix McMinn.
Great start to the tournament by the Year 3/4 Tigers with a 6-6 draw in their first game. PoD goes to Siena Brennan for lots of shots on goal plus amazing defense where she went hard and winning turnovers.
St T's Eagles won 4 : 2 against HF Little Litez. The player of the day: Matthew Bleach Some players are new to joining the game. They catch up fast and play well. They definitely will play much better after game by game.
