Mai i te Kopae ki te Urupa, tatou ako tonu ai - From the cradle to the grave, we are forever learning.
Kia ora St. Theresa's Whanau,
It's hard to believe we are at the end of Term 3 already and what a year 2020 has been for so many reasons. We have been so proud of the way our children have been so flexible, resilient and kind this year. Even though we have spent most of Term 3 in Alert Level 2, we have still managed to be creative and the children have enjoyed a huge range of learning experiences.
On Tuesday, our children represented St Theresa's at the Robbie Fruean rugby competition. They had fun and played well. We also had Room 7 out at Battle Hill enjoying Bush Sprouts. The rest of the school farewelled Jenny Norris, with a very moving waiata and haka and we were all very proud of the leadership our older children showed.
Yesterday, Jo Beasley took 7 of our cultural leaders to Aotea College to join with the other schools in our Kahui Ako for the Young Leaders Day. This was a wonderful opportunity for these children to further develop the connections they made in Term 1.
Today was the much anticipated 'Bring and Buy' fundraiser for our senior camp. We were blessed with a fantastic day weather-wise and it was awesome to see and hear the children having so much fun. This is a wonderful opportunity not only to fundraise but also for the children to develop their organisation, team work and problem solving skills. It is also an opportunity for our junior children to sharpen up their bartering skills - there were definitely some sharp deals to be had. Thank you for your support with this very worthwhile day.
Thank you from all of the staff here at St Theresa's for the continued support we have received throughout the year. We are hopeful that Term 4 will be more settled however, we know we can cope with whatever comes our way with a smile and a kind word and will continue to keep school life as normal as possible.
Have a great break, travel safely, stay well and keep safe.
Arohanui

Board Talk - Mike Tohill - Chairperson, Board of Trustees
We had our Board of Trustees meeting last week. It was very productive and positive meeting and we covered a lot of topics. We talked about the Parents & Friends committee which is up and running once again. This looks to be another really well-organised group and we are really happy to see it starting so well. There are a lot of plans for fundraising for the rest of the year and it looks like a great group to be a part of. I would encourage as many of you as possible to get involved. Our discussions also covered the need we have for the fundraising they are doing and the positive impact it is going to have on St Theresa’s.
We discussed our strategic aims and amongst other things, Donna went over the plan for the rest of the year in terms of events coming up and how we will be monitoring student achievement and how we are supporting that. Also as part of that discussion, the Junior block development. The tender process is still underway so it won’t be started as early as we hoped. Unfortunately, this is all out of our control as the whole development is funded and managed by the Archdiocese of Wellington. It is going to be a great development once it is completed.
We welcomed Margaret Van Schaik, who has recently joined the Board. I would also like to welcome Nick Song who has been appointed to the Board of Trustees as a Proprietor's Appointee. Both Margaret and Nick will add a lot to the Board and I look forward to working with them. I would also like to thank Sarah Buchanan for her work as a Board member. Sarah is moving on, as work and family life take precedence. Thank you, Sarah, for your input and the work you have done for St. Theresa’s.
Finally, I wanted to offer our condolences to Deb Norris on the passing of her mother, Jenny. Jenny was an important and loved member of the St Theresa’s community and our thoughts and prayers are with Deb and the wider Norris whanau. Kua hinga te tōtara o Te Waonui a Tāne.
Ngä mihi

Prayer to bless our togetherness in a pandemic that holds us apart - Prayer 5 - Do not be afraid
This is the fifth in a series of prayers by Fr James Lyons during a time when many people are unable to meet with those they love.
Do Not Be Afraid
Many times, Jesus, you urged your friends not to be afraid.
I need to hear these words – indeed the whole world needs to hear them –
as the siege under Covid-19 continues.
We fear a virus we cannot control, a virus we cannot see, a virus that separates us from one another.
Help us to trust Your words and Your presence to know in our hearts that we need not be afraid.
Amen.
Robbie Fruean Rugby Tournament
On Tuesday, St. T's participated in the Robbie Fruean Rugby tournament. All the kids showed great heart and character throughout the day.
Thank you to Scot Fordham for assisting with coaching on the day and for the many other parents for helping with transport.

Even though the weather wasn't exactly playing its part, we managed to find a gap and got stuck in! Thanks to everyone who helped with this!
Well done to all the children who played in the Ngati Toa Junior Netball league this year. We know you've all improved so much and that there are definitely some future Silver Ferns amongst you!

This is the final week to get yourself a limited edition print of the amazing "bubble art" created by our St Theresa's children following lockdown.
Orders close on Friday 25 September.
No further orders will be accepted after this date, so please remember to order!
What you need to do:
- view the print on the school website or visit the school office
- complete an order form (these have been sent home in school bags, are on the school website and printed copies are at the school office)
- spread the word and tell your friends to buy one too!
All proceeds raised from these sales will go towards a kitchen in the new Junior block.
Our children have completed their art and it all looks absolutely incredible! A big thanks to Jo Beasley and the teachers for co-ordinating this. These uniquely personal gifts include calendars, diaries, sketch pads, mouse mats and gift cards.
More information about prices and how to purchase the products will be sent out in the first week of Term 4. At that time, you will also be able to view your child's art online (and can even upload a different piece of art or photo, if you'd prefer).
All proceeds raised from these sales will also go towards a kitchen in the new Junior block.
Board of Trustees - Casual Vacancy
A casual vacancy has occurred on the Board of Trustees for an elected parent representative. The Board has resolved under section 105 of the Education Act 1989 to fill the vacancy by selection. Any eligible voter who wishes to ask the Board to hold a by-election should email by 1st October, 2020.
