Donna McDonald - Principal's Note
What a stormy week our last week of Term 2 has been but the children at St Theresas don't let a bit of weather stop them. It was really great to see the Yr 4 - 6s out running yesterday. Some chose the competitive race and others chose to be less competitive, while others chose a more inside option! All of the children supported one another, had smiles on their faces and pushed themselves in their own way. A huge thank you to our wonderful staff for braving the elements to support them. It was also great to see so many whanau out supporting our children.
Next term we will be holding parent interviews on Tuesday, 4 August and Thursday, 13 August. This will be an opportunity for you to meet with your child's teacher and discuss their progress and achievement, set goals for the second half of the year and share information to support their learning. An online booking link will come out at the start of Term 3.
Just a reminder that in Term 3, we would like to continue with a version of our drop off and pick up system. This sytem has seen many benefits for the children, staff and whanau.
Term 3:
- Monday - Thursday: Senior students will be at the gates in the morning to meet and greet the children as they arrive from approx 8.20am. We encourage you to continue supporting your child's independence in the morning.
- Friday: As this is our Assembly day, this is a great opportunity to come in and see what your child/ren have been doing during the week and stay for Assembly if you can.
- Afternoons: The teachers will continue to pack the children up and bring them to the gates however, you are very welcome to come into the school grounds to collect them if you prefer.
- Our sign in/out system is back to normal, with all children who arrive late or leave early needing to be signed in or out at the Office.
The PB4L gold token box has almost overflowed with the children voting over the past 2 weeks. We have a clear winner with Dress-up Mufti Day. So this Friday will be a dress up mufti day for the children. As Crazy Hair Day was a close 2nd, if children want to include a wacky hairdo in their mufti, they are very welcome to do that too.
It has certainly been a crazy start to 2020. The last time NZ had a 12 week term was in 2011 for the Rugby World Cup and most of our children weren't even born yet! Thank you all for the support, encouragement and positivity you have shown throughout Term 2. We are very grateful for the partnership we have here at St Theresa's with our school and whanau. We are all looking forward to Term 3 bringing a greater sense of normality.
Have a safe and happy break from the normal routines, over the next two weeks. Safe travels to those of you who are heading away to see parts of our beautiful country. Stay well and see you all in back in Term 3.

Gospel reading for Sunday, 5th July, 2020
We’ve been through a lot in the last few months. Our world has become less certain, including livelihoods for some. Our community resources are also at risk, with limited funding further decreasing.
Now, more than ever, our St Theresa’s community matters.
We need to reimagine how we connect
If we want our community to thrive, we need to reflect on:
- How we build on our sense of community
- How we reimagine our fundraising efforts
We want to start small and focus on what we can do between now and the end of the year.
How you can help
There are two ways to get involved:
- Have your say and share your ideas
We need lots of different ideas and different perspectives. Come share your ideas over a cup of tea on Thursday, 23 July 20 after school drop off (staff room). If you can’t make the session but still want to contribute, let us know a good time to chat.
- Join the Parents & Friends Committee
We also need lots of different people to implement the ideas we come up with together. The more people who get involved, the lighter the workload. Learn more about joining the Committee during the Thursday, 23 July session. Again if you can’t make the session but are interested, just reach out for a chat.
We all need to help in some way
Right now, our community needs us. Now is the time to reinvigorate a sense of collective ownership.
This is about all of us. We are all kaitiaki/guardians of this special community.
What this conversation isn’t about
As we don’t know how things are going to develop with Covid-19, any decisions relating to Carnival 2021 will be reviewed towards the end of the year.

Junior and Senior Cross Country Results
Well done to everyone who gave it a go and thanks to parents and whanau for their support.
The total amount raised this year is just over $29 200 which includes a couple of items yet to be settled. What a fantastic effort from everyone. Thank you to all involved in this major fundraising initiative.
In Room 1 we have been making frog habitats to look after Lester and Clyde. We learnt what kind of habitat NZ native frogs would like and then we planned ours. We used a box and put all the things in it that frogs might like.
We had a lovely time in the church with Jude. Our liturgy was all about not worrying and helping others who may have worries.

The staff here at St. T's would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. We're all looking forward to the break and to having time to relax and have some lie ins in this cold weather!
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support and for everything you do to make this School the awesome place it is!
If you're travelling these holidays, please take care on the roads and for added 'protection', here is the Traveller's Prayer:
Give me a careful, watchful eye for young and old as I pass by.
I want to use this car for You, to drive my friends/family in safety too
but all these things can never be, unless O Lord, You drive with me. Amen.
Board of Trustees - Casual Vacancy
A casual vacancy has occurred on the Board of Trustees for an elected parent representative. The Board has resolved under section 105 of the Education Act 1989 to fill the vacancy by selection. If ten percent or more of eligible voters on the school roll ask the Board, within 28 days of this notice being published, to hold a by-election to fill the vacancy, then a by-election will be held.
Any eligible voter who wishes to ask the Board to hold a by-election should email by 16th July, 2020.

Disco - mark this date in your diary!
Friday, 14th August is when it's all happening so make sure you have this in your calendar so your child doesn't miss out!
We will have lolly bags, chippies, hotdogs, drinks and glow sticks on sale again this year. Plus awesome music from the DJ to make this a fun 'treat' night. The times will be the same again this year and the Year 3 group will again be able to choose which time slot they attend.
Years 1 and 2: 5pm - 6.30pm
Years 4, 5 and 6: 7pm - 8.30pm
Year 3s: Choose either slot.
Chrissie Swift is also looking for volunteers to help so please let her know if you are avaliable. cfswift@bigpond.com
