Mai i te Kopae ki te Urupa, tatou ako tonu ai - From the cradle to the grave, we are forever learning.
Last week I was fortunate to be able to attend the New Zealand Principals' Federation Conference at Te Pae in Otautahi, with over 870 delegates in attendance. It was a good sign that we are returning to a greater sense of normality. It was wonderful to be able to meet with so many other principals and educators from across the country and listening to speakers such as our Minister of Education, the Hon. Chris Hipkins, Dr. Farah Palmer, Dr. Cheryl Doig, Dr. Siouxsie Wiles and Prof. Russell Bishop made for some compelling and challenging conversations.
Sadly, Mrs. MacLean's mother passed away in the UK and her funeral service was held on Tuesday. The children, particularly in Rooms 9 and 10, have been praying for Mrs MacLean and her whanau and we send her our thoughts, prayers and aroha. We are all looking forward to welcoming her back in Term 4.
There was high excitement in Kakano Pod as they headed out on the bus this morning to see the Frozen show. We are all looking forward to hearing about it and reading some great write ups from them.
Just a heads up - in Term 4, we swap to summer uniform. We do have a grace period for people to order any items they require and all the details of what our summer uniform looks like are on the website.
Have a great long weekend.
Nga mihi,
Donna McDonald - Principal

Gospel for Sunday, 25th September, 2022
Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Luke 16:19-31
In this Sunday's Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the reversal of fortunes between the rich man and the poor man, Lazarus. We are challenged to think about sins of omission; those times when we don't do something wrong but merely do nothing at all. The rich man in this story did not help Lazarus, the poor man and in doing nothing at all, he sinned. God wants us to share with those who are in need. The first step in doing so is to recognize or be aware of those who are in need.
Room 2 have been busy learning all about what our ocean floor might look like for our sea creatures and plant life with plastics and rubbish being dumped into the ocean. We created some art work with Room 1 to show our understanding. We know that if we all work together doing the little things then we can make a big difference to help clean up our oceans.
The following children have been preparing for their First Holy Communion on Sunday. Please keep them and their families in your prayers.
Isobella Adams, Nicholas Aubrey, Brooke Barber, Will Croasdale, Bronagh Davidson, Esther Davies, Iris Gair, Colin Lang, Holly Reading, Tom & Sam Rousell, Pieta Sarniak-Thomson, Hugo Simmons and Bella Woodley
Feast of St Therese of Lisieux Celebration Sunday 2nd October
To celebrate the Feast of St. Therese, Little Flower of Jesus and the patron of this Parish and School, we would like to invite you to dress up in your cultural attire or anything that is celebratory and bring a small flower to the 9.30a.m. Mass.
If you generally come to the Vigil Mass on Saturday, please come instead for the Sunday morning Mass so that we can celebrate this feast of our patron saint together.
There will be a shared morning tea after the morning Mass, with some entertainment. Please bring a plate of food to share.
DanceSplash 2022
I sat in my chair at the Michael Fowler centre at DanceSplash 2022, dumbfounded at how amazing all the other dances were. We were last and I had no idea how we were going to compare to some of those other dances. Some even had professional ballet dancers! After what seemed like years, a lady came and whispered, “You guys are next, follow me.” The class tiptoed into a room where we had stored all our props. We were careful to be extra quiet as we did not want to interfere with the other dance going on, just on the other side of the wall. As the crowd erupted into cheers for the dance that just finished, I rushed across the stage to put my prop into place. We lined up in two lines. It was hard not to giggle with my friends but I knew I had to stay in character like a soldier. Somehow I managed to keep a straight face through the introduction. When the introduction finally finished we marched onto the stage. The blinding lights made it hard for me to see. When we had finished singing the song ‘Pepeha', the class sat down and the crowd went wild. I couldn't help but feel a little sad that the dance was over. All that practice and hard work trying to make it perfect for such a short time on stage. I was so exhausted but extremely proud of myself.

DanceSplash 2022
I sit in my seat nervously as I watch the twelve other dances before us. Then… the lady quietly takes us out of the audience. Shivers run down my body. Our props are lying against the ground. My heart was racing like a spinning tornado going round and round and round. We all line up and walk over to the side of the stage. I hand my prop to one of the teachers. Claps were heard from the audience. It is time to show our work and give it all we have. As we march on stage the bright, shimmering light shines in my eyes. Fog is surrounding the stage. We hide in our bunkers, hurt and sad. The albatross flying in freedom at last. We sing the pepeha. The audience erupts in applause and I smile. As we finished I was tired, happy and a little bit sad because we had done so much practice and so much work, to only do it once and then we are done.
