Kia ora St. Theresa's whanau,
We were all very sad to hear of the passing of our much loved and respected kuia, Shirley Kelland, on Wednesday morning. Shirley was a taonga to us here at St. Theresa's and supported the staff, tamariki and their whanau to understand the protocols of our powhiri, with a Catholic lens. Shirley was also the driving force behind the korowhai that are presented to new students and staff at powhiri and worked with our karanga girls supporting them in their role in Masses and powhiri. We loved it when Shirley visited the school in her stylie, sparkly outfits and supported us all in her kind and gentle way. We are so grateful to Shirley's whanau for so generously sharing her with us over many, many years. She will be missed by us all.
Ka heke te roimata me te hūpē, ka ea te mate
When tears and mucus fall death is avenged
Our powhiri on Tuesday was so lovely and it was very emotional to be able to be back in the Church together as a community and to share morning tea together. We had a very big group of students and staff to welcome and although the weather meant we were indoors, it made the singing and haka even more powerful. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend and show support to our new whanau.
Have a great weekend.

Gospel for Sunday, 15th May, 2022
John 13:31-33a,34-35
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus gives us a new commandment when He tells His friends to love one another the way He had shown them how to love. During His time on earth, Jesus did not just tell us to love one another but He led by example and showed us how. One example of this is at the Last Supper where Jesus washed the feet of His disciples. It is often easier to say than do and this gospel reminds us to walk the walk and to act in a way which shows love to one another as Jesus did and asked us to do.
A very warm welcome to Mason Gallen and his parents Sindy and Daniel. Mrs. Beasley and the Room 2 students are thrilled to have you join them. Lots of good wishes for a very happy and fulfilling time as part of the St. T's community.
St. Theresa's Parish Report for this week!
We wish Fr. Andrew safe travels as he returns home to visit his family in Korea. It has been two years since he last saw them. We hope your time with them is filled with love and that many happy memories are made. We look forward to your return, Fr. Andrew.
Our very dear and beloved Shirley Kelland who is well-known and loved by so many people, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, 11th May. There will be a Rosary said for her on Friday, 13th May at 7p.m. in the Church and then her Requiem Mass is on Saturday morning at 10a.m. We send our condolences to her family and to everyone who loved her. Shirley has been a huge part of the St. Theresa's community for many years and also had much involvement with our school when she lived here in James Street. She will be missed, more than words can say. Rest in peace, Shirley.
Please pray this prayer with your family.
We send many blessings to two of our families, the Johnstones and the Leones, who have recently had their youngest children baptised. We ask that you keep them in your prayers as they go along on their faith journey.
Room 8 Celebrating NZSL Week
This is NZSL Week as well as the month of Mary. Our focus this week is to learn the sign language for the Hail Mary. Every day this month, we pray one decade of the Rosary so we will be experts in signing the Hail Mary very soon.

St. Theresa's Secondhand School Uniform Shop - read all about it!
Our second-hand uniform has proved to be so popular, we are now turning it into a “shop”. This is a fundraiser whereby items will be individually priced with 100% of all proceeds going directly to our School. If you have old uniform in good condition that you are willing to donate to this fundraiser, please drop it to Gina (no white shirts or old-style boys’ shirts please). We currently have a lot of demand for new entrant items and girls’ uniform. For any further information, please contact Libby: Elizabeth.baker@tegrisk.co.nz
St. T's very own, first ever COOKBOOK!!
The Parents & Friends Committee are currently working on creating St. Theresa’s first ever School Cookbook. This will be made up of family favourite recipes from our School and Parish community. We would like every family to contribute a recipe that means something to them, whether it’s your child’s favourite chicken meal or a secret sauce that has been passed down generations.
You can enter your recipe details here or snap a picture of the recipe and email it to: sttheresascookbook@gmail.com
It would be amazing to have a little blurb with your recipe but if words fail you, then just send the recipe through on its own.
