Mai i te Kopae ki te Urupa, tatou ako tonu ai - From the cradle to the grave, we are forever learning.
Yesterday we welcomed 17 new students and their families from across the school at our powhiri and Mass of Welcome. The powhiri was exceptional, with all of the children stepping up to play their part. Our Mass was lovely and we thank Fr Andrew for again supporting and strengthening our growing faith community. Unfortunately, we had some of our new entrants and their buddies away and they missed the photo opportunity, however we will make sure we get photographs of all the children in their korowai with their buddies.
Today is the Kapiti Coast Catholic Schools Scripture Reading Competition at Our Lady of Kapiti School. Olivia McKennie and I will be taking our Year 5 and 6 winners, Jacob Song and Piata Gargiulo, up to Kapiti to compete against the other schools in the competition. All of the children in Rooms 9 and 10 have worked hard, supported each other through the various stages involved in finding our finalists and we are all very proud of our representatives.
Stepping up and outside our comfort zone seems to be the theme of this term and we are very proud of our Mathswell team who competed against more than 30 other schools from around Wellington last night. Huge congratulations to Chris Smith, Max Gair, Willow Dunne, Jacob Song, Elias Hasse and Ryker Sidoti for working together as a team, staying calm and representing St Theresa's so well.
Have a great weekend.
Nga mihi,
Donna McDonald - Principal

Gospel for Sunday, 4th September, 2022
Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Luke 14: 25-33
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus teaches us about the demands of being a disciple. He tells us that if we want to follow Him, then He needs to be our first priority and He speaks of the fact that this can be hard. In this Gospel, Jesus says that one can only be His disciple if one dislikes their mother and father. It is really important that we don’t read this literally but understand that the message is that we need to prioritise Him and in doing so, we find happiness. Reflecting on this, we are left with a challenge to think about how we currently prioritise God in our lives and how we might be able to improve.
All our children did an amazing job of presenting their Scripture Reading. The children in our photo were the Year 5 and 6 finalists and the winners, Piata Gargiulo (Year 6) and Jacob Song (Year 5) will be representing St. Theresa's at the Kapiti Coast Catholic Schools Scripture Reading Competition being held today. Thanks once again to Jocelyn Bryant and David Keane who had the tough job of being the judges!
Welcome to our school community!
This week, we have four new students to welcome.
Julia Castro (Room 6) and her parents, John and Judelle;
Evie Joseph (Room 1) and her parents, Ricky and Melissa;
Julius Cronauer (Room 1), sister of Miesha and son of Shane and Dagmar;
Maddie Blanchard (Room 1), sister of Jayden and Ollie and daughter of Brendon and Kate.
A very warm welcome to all of you and we wish you many happy and memorable years as part of our St. T's community.
Best wishes and a big thank you to all the fathers in our community as well as those who fulfil this role, in whichever shape or form! We hope that you enjoy your special day on Sunday.

A bit of a slower start from the girls last week and not as clinical as we've seen in the previous games but nonetheless they picked themselves up and still came away with a 11-6 win over Tawa.
At half time we talked about getting away from looping passes and because the girls are so awesome at listening, second half was all nice passes, great movements and fast play with some great intercepts and even winning turnovers due to held ball.
Player of the Day went to Paige for amazing and accurate goal shooting in first half and strong defence in second. Magic oment to Siena for defending a very tall girl but still managed to get the ball off her.
Only a few more games to go with this fantastic team!
Caritas YCC Day - Friday, 9th September
YCC Day is the day when thousands of young people across New Zealand gather together in solidarity for a good cause and have fun by wearing non-uniform for the small cost of a gold coin. We come together to bring about lasting change for a school who may not enjoy the same privileges as ourselves. For YCC Day in 2022, we are supporting Laura Vicuna School in Bethlehem.
Laura Vicuna School is a small school situated in the Holy Land. The school began in 1988 and is in dire need of support to fix and repair toilets, purchase a new laptop and projector as well as round tables for small group learning activities.
