Mai i te Kopae ki te Urupa, tatou ako tonu ai - From the cradle to the grave, we are forever learning.
It was lovely to see so many of you at our Parish/School Mass on Sunday. Thank you for taking the time to join us afterwards for a sausage and morning tea. Thanks to Jocelyn Bryant, our Parish Secretary, for co-ordinating the morning tea and Olivia McKennie for planning the Mass - her first Mass as our Director of Religious Studies. The children read and sang beautifully. Unfortunately there was a slight technical difficulty and Room 8 missed presenting their dramatisation of the Gospel, however they presented it to the whole school on Monday morning and we were all very impressed.
We were very proud of the children in Room 9 and 10 yesterday, as they helped to farewell Shona Hockings' father and Jorga-Marie's grandfather, at his funeral. They sang the Irish Blessing and performed a haka for him as part of the recessional. This was an opportunity for the children to show servant leadership and to support their teacher and class mate.
The Board of Trustees is starting the consultation process as part of our strategic planning for 2023-2025. A big part of this process involves gathering the voices of the many stakeholders in our community. We will be holding a face to face hui in the hall on Thursday, 22 September 5 - 7pm, which will be an opportunity for you to come along and share ideas about the strategic direction of our School. We will then follow this up with a survey so that we are collecting as much voice as possible. Please mark this date in your calendar now as we would love to see as many of you as possible at the hui.
We are very aware that many of you in our community are struggling with a range of daily issues including sickness of family and loved ones, grief and work pressures. Please let us know if there is any way we can practically support you.
Have a great weekend.
Nga mihi,
Donna McDonald - Principal

Gospel for Sunday, 21st August, 2022
Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time
Luke 13:22-30
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus teaches us that we may run into obstacles trying to reach our ultimate goal of eternal life in Heaven. He tells a parable about some people who miss a deadline. The Master in the story had already locked the gate for the night and would not open it to let those who were late in. Jesus is reminding us that we are all invited to share eternal life with God forever in Heaven but we need to pay attention, stay focussed and take advantage of the opportunities we have, to grow closer to God. We pray the Our Father; we pray to be delivered from temptation - those things that distract us from keeping focused on opportunities to grow closer to God.
Lily Candiliotis started school this week in Room 1. We welcome her and her parents, Philip and Sahra and wish them many happy years as part of our St. T's community.
This week in Room 9, we have been practising for our DanceSplash performance. We will be going on the bus to the Michael Fowler Centre in Wellington to perform on the 14th September. We are very excited! We have been having lots of fun in the Hall, spinning, jumping, dancing and building our confidence to be on the big stage. We have also been busy practising for our Scripture Reading Competition. We love reading and learning about Jesus. Room 9 is the best!

Parking in James Street - an urgent reminder!
PLEASE consider where you park when dropping off or picking up children at school and obey the road rules at all times, even if you're just stopping for a few minutes. We've witnessed some scary (and hairy!) situations, all of which could be avoided.
As well as the above and in the interests of being good neighbours, please don't park over anyone's driveway (which is illegal anyway), regardless of how long you think you will be either waiting in your car or coming in to fetch your child.
THANK YOU to all of those parents who already do this!
Basketball
The St. T's Hawks
The St. T’s Stars won today with a score of 18-10.
We had two Players of the Day: William Lin for amazing defence and a couple of great baskets and Sapphire Churchill who was amazing and truly gave it 110%!
The St. T’s Saints lost 10 - 6 yesterday and there were two Players of the Days: Tiarnan Curran for being an amazing help to our team with awesome defence and George Franklin for amazing defence.
The whole team played excellently and so well together as a team - it made it really hard to choose the Player of the Day. Jonty and Yadani ended up sharing the trophy this week for: Jonty for scoring the 2 goals and Yadani for her ability to read the game and great defence skills.
Player of the Day: Felix McMinn for great defence.
Player of the Day - Mila Robinson
Magic Moment - Sacha Baldwin
Player of the Day - Izzy Cato
Magic Moment - Tristan Jeyathas
Player of the Day: Iris Gair
Player of the Day went to Willow Dunne for her multiple turnovers and great passes.
