Mai i te Kopae ki te Urupa, tatou ako tonu ai - From the cradle to the grave, we are forever learning.
On Sunday we will be celebrating our School/Parish Mass at 9.30am. The children have been learning the songs, prayers and readings for this Mass and we look forward to seeing you all there. Thank you to Wendy Song who has been accompanying the children on the keyboard.
This week, I was priviledged to accompany two of our Year 6 students to the Rotary Leadership Awards in Porirua. Congratulations to Isabella Beach and Willow Dunne for being nominated by the school to receive this well-deserved award.
It was also lovely to see a past student, Isabella Ringrose, receive the award on behalf of her current school.
Chapman Uniforms have informed us that they are currently having supply issues with the fabric they use for the boys' shirts. We have agreed on an alternative fabric which they will be using for all new orders. This fabric is slightly different, however the exisiting fabric is still acceptable to wear. We will eventually phase out the old shirt fabric over time.
We are also looking at the option of adding a skirt to the Year 5/6 winter uniform. This would be optional and there would also be an option of removing the bib from the exisiting tunic for Year 5 and 6 students only. This would only impact our winter uniform which is worn in Terms 2 and 3 so would come in during 2023. There is also a slightly different blouse option avaliable that would complement the skirt. If you are interested in seeing a sample of the skirt or blouse, these are avaliable in the office or when you next have an appointment with Chapman Uniforms. We will let you know costing, etc., as soon as possible.
Sadly, on Monday Mrs Pauline MacLean received word from the UK that her mother was very poorly and she needed to return overseas. She is currently with her family and we know you will join us in sending her our prayers, thoughts and aroha. Thank you to the Room 10 whanau and staff at St Theresa's for your understanding and support as we work together to keep things routine and stable for the children.
Have a wonderful weekend - see you all on Sunday.
Nga mihi,
Donna McDonald - Principal

Gospel for Sunday, 14th August, 2022
The Assumption of the Blessed Mary
This Sunday, we celebrate the Assumption of Mary. We celebrate Mary’s passing from this world into the glory of God. Mary was a person of faith and trust who loved God very much and wanted to do His will, even when she found that difficult. We pray that Mary becomes a model for us and shows us how to have faith and trust in God.
We're so pleased to welcome two new students to Room 1.
Evie Jebson, daughter of John and Jennifer;
Ted Barber, son of Luke and Bronagh and brother of Brooke (Rm 7) and Lucy (Room 8).
Best wishes for your time here at St. T's!
School/Parish Mass - Sunday, 14th August
We will be celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation next week at the 9.30a.m. Mass on Sunday, 21st August. Cardinal John Dew will be presiding. Please keep all the Confirmants and their families in your prayers.
School Board of Trustees Elections
We have received 5 nominations for the 4 positions available on the Board of Trustees. This means that there will be an election and you will receive voting papers and further information through the mail.
Hub Leaders' Trip to National Library
The Hub Leaders went to the National Library for the annual Books Alive event celebrating the finalists in the 2022 "Aotearoa NZ Book Awards for Children and Young Adults".
We caught the train to Wellington and walked up to the National Library. At the event we saw some of our favourite authors and heard them talk about their books and answer questions that we had about being an author or illustrator. We moved around to different rooms throughout the day.
We were able to ask them lots of questions and we learnt that creating a book isn't always easy. One illustrator said that every book she illustrates always has one page that she doesn't like. We learnt that to be an author, all begins with just one idea and that we can all be authors if we keep practising to extend our ideas.
We got lots of our library books signed by the authors which was cool and we had an interview with a journalist. We also had a play on the playground at Parliament at lunchtime which was lots of fun. We had such a fun day.

Player of the Day: Felix Sinclair for an all round great game.
I know we're lucky to have our special imported Sensei Master Coach Matt to teach the girls all about technique and strategy but I think we are just lucky to have a bunch of cool, talented girls who have developed their skills throughout the season and it's such a pleasure to watch how each of them has grown in their confidence.
Player of the Day goes to Bella Beach for her great shooting and intercepts.
Magic Moment: Just as Plimmerton were looking like taking over, Isadora Leone made a crucial steal and shot the goal that turned the tide back in favour of the Angels, who then never looked like losing.
Yesterday, the Young Vinnies discussed what it is like for children in hospital undergoing treatments, whether short or long term. They will be doing their bit to help the new Children's Hospital in Wellington (and the environment) by collecting any unwanted (working or non-working) mobile phones for Recycling for Charity over the next 2 weeks www.recyclingforcharity.co.nz . They will also be collecting any donations of small new toys such as Lego packs, cars, soft toys, etc., that could be given to the Children's Health Unit at Kenepuru Hospital to help ease any upset children. Any contributions greatly appreciated.
