Mai i te Kopae ki te Urupa, tatou ako tonu ai - From the cradle to the grave, we are forever learning.
Kia ora St. Theresa's whanau,
What a wild wintery start we had to this week. Both the school and Church were very fortunate to not have any damage through flooding - it was very close on Sunday afternoon. The thunder and lightning also made for a bit of excitement on Monday.
We are noticing the return of many common winter bugs and flu-like symptoms this term. Although a large amount of illness is now not COVID, we are still able to utilise the safety precautions we have all become used to like handwashing, safe distancing, mask wearing as appropriate and staying home if you are symptomatic. Thank you for supporting us to keep the whole community as well as possible.
Congratulations to all of our children for their determined efforts to increase their own personal fitness with their cross country running training. We were able to hold both the Senior Cross Country last week and the Junior Cross Country this week, with lots of whanau on attendance. Our senior runners have gone to Queen Elizabeth Park today to represent us in the North Zone Cross Country and we wish them well.
Thank you for all the support we received for our annual Book Week. The Book Fair was a great success and Sarah Hunt, the staff and our Learning Hub leaders presented a fun morning with the Book Character Parade and a retelling of the picture book " The day the crayons quit".
Our new senior toilets have been completed and signed off. The children will be able to start using them tomorrow. Our thanks go to the Parish for letting us use the hall toilets over the past 6 weeks, the Archdiocese of Wellington for funding the project and the builders, Peryer Construction, for completing the project so quickly with no fuss. We now have 4 self contained individual toilets that I'm sure the children are going to look after and enjoy using.
With only 3 weeks left in this term we still have lots of activities planned so please continue to check the calendar for important dates.
Have a lovely weekend.

Gospel for Sunday, 19th June, 2022
Sunday, 19th June
John 9:11b- 17
In this Sunday's Gospel, we hear the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000. The disciples wanted to send the people away but Jesus tells them to give the people some food to eat. Jesus took five loaves of bread and two fish and was able to feed the entire crowd of 5,000 people until they were satisfied. To give this Gospel story some context, it is important to note that the Hebrew people viewed eating a meal as a way of expressing and strengthening their relationship with one another under God's covenant. Given this, we see that Jesus satisfied the spiritual hunger of the people. As we celebrate the feast of the Body and Blood of Jesus, we are thankful for the gift of the Eucharist, the meal that feeds us on our spiritual journey. It is our food for the journey of our spiritual life.
A very warm welcome to Eli Smidt and his parents, Dan and Katie. We hope you're enjoying your first week in Room 2 and we wish you many happy and memorable times as part of our St. T's school community.
Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Day tomorrow!
Please consider giving generously to this very 'close to home' initiative.
This is a non-uniform day for Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Day. All children are welcome to wear non-uniform and bring a donation to support this very worthwhile cause. Children can wear something yellow as well, as this is officially 'Wear Yellow Day'.

We need help on the day with marshalling children, throwing colour and supporting the runners. Please email Trish Fitzsimons on trish@stp.school.nz if you can help.
This is a fundraiser to support development of our playground so please support your children to gather as much sponsorship as possible. Thanks in anticipation.
Sarah Hunt, our Librarian, says a huge thanks to everyone for supporting our Scholastic Book Fair. It was well attended and we're up for some awesome new books for all to enjoy. Many thanks too, to all the children for the effort they made with their costumes - they're all winners!
Sports Notices from Trish Fitzsimons, Sports Co-ordinator
Thank you so much to our wonderful community! We have had so many amazing recipes submitted and we are truly grateful.
On Tuesday the 21st we will be having our first foodie photo shoot. If you or your family have submitted a recipe for some BAKING then this is your opportunity to have your dish (and maybe your child…) photographed by a professional photographer and included in our school cookbook. All you need to do is drop in a sample of your delicious baking with your name and the name of your dish on the morning of Tuesday the 21st of June, and we will take care of the rest.
BAKING - This includes slices, cakes, biscuits, scones etc. It does not include desserts (tarts/fruit pies etc), as they will have their very own chapter in the cookbook. If you are unsure if this includes your dish, please email Bronagh.barber@gmail.com for clarification.
Baking can be dropped off at the kids kitchen.
Once again, thank you so much for your continued support in this fundraising project!
