Kia ora St. Theresa's whanau,
Last Friday we held our Caritas Challenge and raised funds to help support the people of Ukraine. The children made sunflowers with their buddy class, wore yellow and blue and donated money for us to send to Caritas. Sunflowers are significant as they are a sign of peace and blue and yellow are the colours of the Ukraine. The children in Room 9 also tied yellow and blue ribbons on the fence and gate to show our support. We are very grateful to live in a safe and peaceful country and our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Ukraine.
We are so excited to be able to hold our Easter pageant in the Church again this year and also to be able to have our whanau present. The Easter pageant will be held on Thursday, 14 April at 11a.m. Please remember that masks must be worn at all times and we will need to leave a gap between the children and our guests. We will have a row of seats reserved to ensure we have a physical distance. Unfortunately, we are unable to hold our traditional Hot Cross Bun Morning Tea this year however, we are looking forward to seeing many of you at Church on Thursday.
Our first Staff Only Day will be held on 2 May, which is the first day back from the term break, so there will be no school for the children. This day is part of our Accord days that were awarded to schools in the last collective and do not affect our year end finish date. We are using this day to begin our work with Helen Wells, a facilitator from Massey University, focussing on structured literacy. This professional development will continue through into 2023. Thank you for your support with this.
I currently have 5 amazing Easter baskets in my office that are waiting for new homes. Please send back all your sold and/or unsold tickets for this raffle so you're in with a chance to rehome some of these goodies.
Take care and stay well as we go into the last week of a very challenging term.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Gospel for Sunday, 10th April, 2022
Palm Sunday Luke 22:14 - 23:56
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus speaks words of forgiveness and promises from the cross. These three sentences are reported in this Gospel as Jesus' last words: (1) “Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.” (2) “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” (3) “Father, into Your hands I commend My spirit.”
The words Jesus spoke from the cross are consistent with His entire life, all the work He did and all the words He taught. In these last words of Jesus, we hear echoes of the words of the prayer He taught us to pray - The Lord's Prayer.
A very warm welcome to Jeyton Kapua and his mum, Sharnel. Jeyton has started his school life in Room 2 with Mrs. Beasley. We wish you many happy and memorable years as part of the awesome School community that is St. T's!
Board Talk - Mike Tohill, Chairperson, Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees met via Zoom last week for our second meeting of the year. We welcomed Jocelyn Bryant as a new member of the Board of Trustees. Jocelyn is a Proprietor's Appointee, has previously been on the Board and was Chairperson for many years. We look forward to your input and thank you for agreeing to join us.
Our main focus was a discussion around the Strategic Plan which is being renewed this year, for the next three years. We will be getting you information on our current strategic aims through some informational videos that are being put together by our kids, under the guidance of Mrs. MacLean. We will also be preparing a webinar and survey as well as holding face to face meetings so that we can get your opinions and ideas as we work through this.
We also discussed the changes to the vaccination mandate and how that affects St. Theresa’s. We will be closely following the Ministry of Education guidelines in relation to this. Over the next few weeks, we will be making a robust assessment of the health and safety risks involved in this situation before deciding how we should proceed. We will keep you informed of any decisions made.
The school development was also discussed. The senior toilet block upgrade, which is well overdue, is starting later this month. We also talked about upgrading the field area. We are looking into the costs of this but it is another exciting development of our school grounds. We will need your support through fundraising efforts. I know the Parents & Friends group are extremely busy with plans to raise funds so please get involved as much as you can.
Another full meeting and good discussions. Enjoy the upcoming school holidays and time with your family.
Nga mihi,
Mike Tohill – St Theresas School Plimmerton Board of Trustees
This programme will commence in the first week of Term 2. This year, we are trialling a new programme from the Archdiocese of Wellington. If you wish your child to be part of the Sacramental programme, you must have them enrolled at the Parish office by the 1st May. Please email the office at st.theresa@xtra.co.nz
St. T's very own, first ever COOKBOOK!!
The Parents & Friends Committee are currently working on creating St. Theresa’s first ever School Cookbook. This will be made up of family favourite recipes from our School and Parish community. We would like every family to contribute a recipe that means something to them, whether it’s your child’s favourite chicken meal or a secret sauce that has been passed down generations.
You can enter your recipe details here or snap a picture of the recipe and email it to: sttheresascookbook@gmail.com
It would be amazing to have a little blurb with your recipe but if words fail you, then just send the recipe through on its own.
Last Friday for pizza tomorrow
Just a reminder that tomorrow is the last Pizza Friday for this term.
A massive thanks to the Lin family for donating an electric wok to us, following our request in last week's newsletter. Our senior students make meals for the St. Vincent de Paul Society to give to families in need so it will be put to good use.
We are part of such a great community, right?!
STAFF ONLY DAYS - Please mark your calendar
Monday, 2nd May and Friday, 3rd June are both STAFF ONLY DAYS which means no school for your children!
Monday's Staff Only Day is for teachers to work with our advisor on Structured Literacy. This is a Ministry funded professional development day and we have to work within a limited timeframe.
Friday's Staff Only Day is a Northern Porirua Kahui Ako day. This is an opportunity for all of the 10 schools in our Kahui Ako to work together, collaborating on our achievement challenges.
St. Theresa's Secondhand School Uniform Shop - read all about it!
Our second-hand uniform has proved to be so popular, we are now turning it into a “shop”. This is a fundraiser whereby items will be individually priced with 100% of all proceeds going directly to our School. If you have old uniform in good condition that you are willing to donate to this fundraiser, please drop it to Gina (no white shirts or old-style boys’ shirts please). We currently have a lot of demand for new entrant items and girls’ uniform. For any further information, please contact Libby: Elizabeth.baker@tegrisk.co.nz
