Donna McDonald - Principal's Note
Kia ora whanau. The news on Tuesday night that we were heading back into Level 2 from midday yesterday was definitely not what we were expecting or particularly what we wanted to hear. However, thank you for the calm, supportive way you have managed this with your children. We are endeavouring to keep things as normal as possible for as long as possible, while quietly planning for the possibility of going into Level 3. Our brains have 'muscle memory' from our last experience and what we overwhelmingly know is, we will get through this together. We have had to make some adjustments to planned activities and will keep you informed as quickly as we can, as things develop.
On Monday I was proud to attend the Rotary and Porirua City Council student leadership awards. Both Hunter Tomlinson and Isabel Taylor were worthy recipients and we congratulate them on this achievement.

Welcome to the St. T's School Community, Fergus!
We're very happy to welcome Fergus Gear and his parents, Jonathon and Alicja and their family. Fergus has joined the children in Room 1. We hope you'll enjoy many happy years here with us and make lots of wonderful memories.
Isla MacDonald (in Room 3) and her family have a new baby sister called Zoe. Congratulations to all of you from all of us!
Board Talk - Mike Tohill, Chairperson Board of Trustees
We discussed the finances and reviewed a mid-year report from our accountant in relation to our finances. As with all schools, our budget is tight but we have made sure that funds are allocated to all the areas of importance through the year. We also discussed the way the Parents & Friends committee is coming together. I have to say a big thank you to Sarah Davies and Maria Gair for the outstanding work they are doing in putting this group together. I am really looking forward to seeing how they progress and I encourage you to get involved - it will really benefit our school.
It was great to see the new junior play area open up. From what I have seen, the junior kids absolutely love it. Every time I have walked past it there are loads of kids from across the school in that area. It gives our juniors a space that is designed specifically for them and allows them to use their creativity to work out how they want to engage with that area. It's been great to hear so many positive comments from both parents and children. As we look at getting underway with planning the next stage, we are working with a very tight budget. If you have any skills, services or contacts that will support us to build our amazing next stage then please let Donna know. Laurie Smith from the Board has taken on project managing this and any assistance, experience or ideas are more than welcome.
With this new outbreak of Covid-19 in Auckland, please stay safe and follow the guidelines. We will keep you posted with updates and any procedures that need to be followed.
Nga mihi,
Mike Tohill - Chairperson – St Theresa’s School Plimmerton
Due to all Masses being suspended by Cardinal John until the 18th August, we are unable to celebrate our Mass of Welcome. We have decided to continue with our powhiri at 9a.m. at school. We will now welcome our new families and present the children with their korowai and kete outside Room 8. We will then go to the Hall for morning tea.
This powhiri will be weather and level dependent as we cannot hold it in the Hall or use the Church. We will let you know if we need to postpone it.
If you have any questions, please contact Deborah Norris. deborah@stp.school.nz
