Donna McDonald - Principal's Note
On Tuesday evening, several of our Board members attended a Kahui Ako combined board meeting. This evening was an opportunity for the boards of our 10 schools in the Kahui Ako to discuss the 3 work streams within our Nth Porirua Kahui Ako Achievement plan 2020-2022.
The staff at St Theresa's are currently connecting with the Hauora/wellbeing and Auaha/Innovation workstreams. Our Cultural leaders are developing our cultural connectiveness. This group are identifying our Maori, Pasifika and other groups of learners and working on developing a connection to their culture through language and the Arts. All of our teachers are attending the Digital Technology professional development that is funded through the Kahui Ako. We are also working with Julie Roberts from NZCER on moderating the Learning Progressions in Mathematics through PaCT (progress and consistency tool), a Ministry designed curriculum tool.
There was huge excitement on Tuesday at lunchtime when the children deiscovered the fences had been removed and they could finally use our new play area. A huge thank you again to everyone who has been involved in the planning and development of this very cool area. Look out for details of when we can start Stage 2!!
Mrs McDonald asked the kids what they thought of the new play area:
The new play area is a challenge; I like the mounds and the high wire. Alex C Rm 6
I like walking on the new jump rope and helping other people go across it. Sophia T Rm 6
Room 2 told me that they love the fake grass because it doesn't get muddy, the tightrope because it's fun and the slide which is fun and fast. They also like the jumping mounds because you can play 'the floor is lava". - Thanks Room 2!
The children in Room 3 used so many great describing words when I asked them about the new play area. They said they liked running up the big hill and surfing down the slide. They love going down the slide and onto the tightrope. They said it's fun hopping on the rocks and jumping from the big mountain to the little rocks and green bumps. They told me it's good when someone holds your hand and they love everything.
Have a fantastic weekend; rest and relax and of course, now that winter sports are back in full swing, rug up warm because it looks like it's going to be a cold one!

Gospel reading for Sunday, 9th August, 2020
God made a promise long ago to His Chosen People that He would always be with them and would always love them. This promise seems too good to be true. Yet, God fulfilled that promise by sending His only Son, Jesus. Jesus, in turn, sent the Holy Spirit to be with us at all times. Even so, we sometimes doubt God’s promise. In this Sunday’s Gospel, we hear that Peter experienced doubt too.
WELCOME to the MacDonald family
This week, Isla MacDonald joined all the children in Room 3. She is the daughter of Alister and Frances. We wish them many happy years as part of the St. T's community.
Please come to school TOMORROW, wearing mufti and bring a gold coin (or more!), as a donation.
This year the money we raise will be helping countries in the Pacific and all around the world to carry on staying safe from Covid-19.
Let’s all be like Mary McKillop and do our bit to help those in need.
Important update for SZapp used for our school-wide newsletters and communicaitons
An important update for SZapp has been released to accomodate for iPhones which have been intermittently receiving push notifications.
SZapp version 3.6.0 is available from the App Store now and we advise all iPhone users to install this version to ensure notifications are received correctly.

We're taking the stress out of making lunches on a Friday!
Please remember the following:
- You can pay in full for the rest of this term (7 weeks) - bank account 12 3254 0109325 00 or simply attach your money to the order form. Please email the Office to let us know if that's what you've decided to do. YOU STILL NEED TO FILL OUT A FORM - just write 'PREPAID' on it.
- We can't hold paid orders over if your child is absent on the day as we will already have placed our pizza orders the previous evening.
- If possible, please try and have the correct amount of money attached to the order and not to expect change or simply deduct it from your next order.
- You can pay by Eftpos or cash at the Office too.
- One order per child please.
- All orders for the week need to be in by 9a.m. on each Thursday morning.
Thanks for your support of our Camp fundraisers.
From Chrissie Swift:
Thanks to all who offered to help. If you have not heard from Chrissie, it means that all jobs have been filled but you're still welcome to stay and be part of the night. For those who are staying, there will be a 'quietish' area where you can sit and enjoy a cuppa - Sarah Davies will be there to welcome you!
If you are giving your child/ren any extra money on the night, could you please give them COINS if possible?
We have fittings tomorrow and again on Friday, 4th September from 2p.m. onwards.
Please call the School Office to book an appointment. If you already know the size of what you need/want, you can contact the supplier (Bernadette) directly on 972-0682 or email your order to b.chapman093@gmail.com.
