Donna McDonald - Principal's Note
As a faith community we were saddened to hear of Fr. Maurice Carmody's decision to retire from active ministry as a Parish Priest due to siginificant ongoing health issues. Fr Maurice has been a gentle, calm, kind and very caring presence at School over the past 4 years and the children always enjoyed his visits, liturgies and Masses. We will continue to pray for his speedy recovery and wish him a peaceful retirement. Currently Fr. Paul Finlayson SSC, is working in our Parish and we welcome him and are very grateful for his presence and work in our community.
This year one of our main areas of professional development has been using Mantle of the Expert in Dramatic Inquiry. We have worked with Dr. Viv Aitken both online and face to face to develop this pedagogy in our classrooms. Through Dramatic Inquiry, we are learning how techniques such as role playing, movement and active listening can be used in the classroom to explore complex ideas and problems. We will be holding a parent information sharing evening on Thursday 27th August, 5pm - 6.30pm. This will be a fun, interactive opportunity to see the progressions throughout the school and gain a greater understanding of how Dramatic Inquiry is being taught here at St. Theresa's. Mark the date now and look out for more infomation.
Thank you to everyone who has booked an appointment to meet with your child's teacher, on 4th and 13th August. These are the first real opportunities we have had to meet face to face and discuss progress and achievement this year and will be a chance to look at goals, etc. for the second half of this year. Please check online for avaliable time slots - we are looking forward to seeing you all.
Thank you to Sarah Davies and Maria Gair for facilitating a very constructive planning session for our growing Parents & Friends' group and to Chrissie Swift for the planning and organisation of the children's Disco. It is exciting to be planning and thinking about having community events happening again in school and reminds us of how fortunate we are to be living in New Zealand.
Have an awesome weekend - stay safe and well.

When someone offers us a service, we should not think that we deserve everything. Gratitude, appreciation is, first of all, good manners, but it is also a characteristic of a Christian. It is a simple but genuine sign of the Kingdom of God. - Pope Francis
Gospel reading for Sunday, 2nd August, 2020
Just as our bodies require the proper nourishment for energy, we also need the proper spiritual nourishment to meet our emotional needs. In this Sunday's Gospel, we learn about how Jesus feeds our spiritual hunger.
Sparks of God - 24th July 2020
We are very happy to welcome Katelyn and Elijah Lim to St. T's as well as their parents Mingyao and Debbie. Katelyn is in Room 7 and Elijah in Room 1. Our whole School community wishes you everything of the best and many happy years associated with St. T's.
Parents & Friends Committee update
Thank you! Nga mihi nui!
A huge thank you to everyone who attended the Parents & Friends Committee brainstorming session last week. It was exciting to see so many positive and enthusiastic people join the korero.
Together we reimagined our fundraising efforts and community connection in light of Covid-19. The plan we came up with for the rest of the year is in this link.
Thank you also to those who volunteered to make the ideas happen through our Parents & Friends Committee.
We still need more people to bring these ideas to life. There are two ways you can help:
- Join us on the Parents & Friends Committee
- Help us out with one (or more) activities outlined in our plan
Reach out to one of us to build a stronger and more connected community:
- Sarah Davies (021 209 6932 or vanders25@gmail.com)
- Maria Gair (021 390 041 or mariabgair@gmail.com)
On Friday, 7th of August we are having a Mufti Mania Day. Please come to school wearing mufti and bring a gold coin (or more!), as a donation.
This year the money we raise will be helping countries in the Pacific and all around the world to carry on staying safe from Covid-19.
Let’s all be like Mary McKillop and do our bit to help those in need.
Secondhand Uniform Sale TOMORROW
TOMORROW from 2.15p.m. - 3.15p.m., we will be having a sale of secondhand uniform items that we have here at School. This will be set up in the Staffroom or outside in the Four Square if the weather is behaving! A donation for any items taken can be made at the time, at the Office.
Yvonne Hasse has done an awesome job preparing all the items for resale - you'd think you were buying new! Thanks, Yvonne.
Communicating absences via email to teachers
When emailing your child's classroom teacher about absences, please include the office email address. If for some reason the teacher is away on that day, it makes it easier if Gina has also been notified. Thanks!
