Donna McDonald - Principal's Note
Hello, Kia ora, Talofa lava, Hola, Namaste, Mabuhay, Ciao, Kia Orana, Ahalan, Konnichiwa, Ni hao, Selam, Xin chao, Bonjour, Bula, Dzien/Dobry, Shalom, Dia duit, Mauri, Halo, Bom dia, Gidday, Gutentag Mai i te Kopae ki te Urupa, tatou ako tonu ai - From the cradle to the grave, we are forever learning.
Today we celebrate Matariki as a school. The children will be participating in a range of activites including kite making and flying, collaborative Matariki art, making star cookies and Ha ki roto, I te Timatangi and the corners' game. We started this morning singing waiata in the Hall and were entertained by a very talented group of actors from Pihinga Pod, performing the Matariki play. We also shared this Matariki prayer, which was a lovely way to start our day. https://safeyoutube.net/w/D6sM
The new junior play area is progressing well - even with 5 straight days of rain last week. The children have watched the progress with excitement and we are all looking forward to clearing away the fencing and having a play next term. Thank you all for the support you have given to bring this first stage of our development to life.
As we head into our last week of Term 2, we are very aware that winter is here and we have seen the return of the usual coughs, colds and sniffles. The MoH and MoE guidelines are still very clear that if you are unwell, stay home and if you have any symptoms of COVID-19 i.e. sore throat, cough, runny nose or lack of taste and smell, then you need to be tested. If your child has to have a COVID-19 test, they will need to stay home until that test result is returned as negative. Thank you for continuing to be vigilant with your children and supporting us to help keep all of our children healthy and well. Please contact us at School if you are unsure or want to check any details.
Enjoy the end of Week 11 and have a wonderful weekend.

Board Talk - Chairperson, Board of Trustees
Among other things, we discussed the progression of the playground development and the proposed Junior Block development. The first stage of the playground is underway, as you can see. It should be done in the next few weeks. We will continue to fundraise for the second and third stages so over time the whole playground area will be transformed. It is an expensive process.
The Junior Block design has been finalised and we should see that work getting underway by Term 4. That is going to really transform that whole area. There will be some short term disruption but the long term gain will be huge.
We had a discussion about the Parents & Friends committee and work is underway from some parents outside of the Board to put that together in a new way. It’s really a chance to reimagine how we approach fundraising at the School but also to look to build on our sense of community as well. The hope is that there will be lots of parents involved. I can see it being a really good way to continue to build on our community spirit and really get to know other families in our St Theresa’s School community. Keep an eye out for an invite to take part in this process. I would encourage you to get in and contribute to the discussion with your ideas and experience - it really is going to be a rewarding experience.
School holidays are coming up quickly so enjoy the break and refresh for the second half of the school year.
Nga mihi

Board of Trustees - Casual Vacancy
A casual vacancy has occurred on the Board of Trustees for an elected parent representative. The Board has resolved under section 105 of the Education Act 1989 to fill the vacancy by selection. If ten percent or more of eligible voters on the school roll ask the Board, within 28 days of this notice being published, to hold a by-election to fill the vacancy, then a by-election will be held.
Any eligible voter who wishes to ask the Board to hold a by-election should email by 16th July, 2020.
