Donna McDonald - Principal's Note
Hello, Kia ora, Talofa lava, Hola, Namaste, Mabuhay, Ciao, Kia Orana, Ahalan, Konnichiwa, Ni hao, Selam, Xin chao, Bonjour, Bula, Dzien/Dobry, Shalom, Dia duit, Mauri, Halo, Bom dia, Gidday, Gutentag Mai i te Kopae ki te Urupa, tatou ako tonu ai - From the cradle to the grave, we are forever learning.
It seems a bit strange to be nearly at the end of Week 10, and we still have 2 weeks to go in Term 2 - just another one of the strange consequences of COVID-19.
Thank you for your feedback around gate drop off and pick up. We also collected our student and staff voice to help inform any decisions we make going forward.
As a school we value our community involvement in our students' learning and we do not want to lose those connections. We also understand how important the opportunites to catch up with other parents, hunt for lost property, share your children's work and generally feel welcome are to us all. As a community, we have seen an increase in our children's independence, resilience and ability to manage themselves. We have also seen a drop in lateness right across the school and our children are focussed and ready to start their learning on or even before the bell goes.
So...for the rest of Term 2, we will continue having support staff meeting the children at the gates and teachers will continue to bring the children to the gates after school. Over the next 2 weeks, we will be training our Year 6 students to take over this morning role and they will become our morning greeters in Term 3.
We are now holding Whole School Assemblies again on Fridays and you are all very welcome to bring your children in on a Friday and stay on for Assembly if you wish. After school in Term 3, teachers will still bring the children to the gates however, you are welcome to come into the grounds if you prefer and collect your children as they are walking to the gates.
Our hope is that we have developed a sense of independence in our children so that they feel empowered to walk in on their own, with the knowledge that their parents are also welcome. Your support with reminding them how amazing they have been will help this to become the 'new normal'.
A huge thank you to our wonderful support staff, especially this week for their cheerful good mornings and a timely reminder that all children need to have a waterproof jacket at school everyday.
A few thank yous:
We are very fortunate to have recieved a ton of blank art paper for the staff and students to use. Thank you to Annette Curran for co-ordinating this for us. A huge thank you to Dee Glentworth and the team at Free for All, in Porirua. We are very grateful to them for thinking of St Theresa's when they have donated goods to share and encourage you to support this very worthwhile organisation.
Thank you to our fabulous Mike Montgomery (Hannah Greenham's grandad), who continues to be our on the job handyman. Most recently, he gave up a whole Saturday to install some Autex on the walls in Room 7 - not an easy job. We are very grateful for his ongoing support.
Also thanks to Cameron Bacon and his team of helpers who removed a wall in the beehive and installed the shelving. We are all loving the space and neatly stacked shelves.
Lastly, thanks to Pauline MacLean and Vinny Thompson who worked with the staff and children to create the amazing murals we have hung around the school. We were also able to twist the boss' arm at Commercial Plastering Ltd to give us 2 great guys for a day to install the artwork and it is fantastic to see how proud our children are of their work.
Have a fantastic weekend, stay warm and dry.

Sparks of God - 12th June, 2020
The Sparks of God from 12th June have had a fantastic week and have been role models for our whole School. Well done to you all!
This week we warmly welcome Carly Doughty and her parents, Bradley and Laura. Carly has joined the children in Room 3 and we wish the whole family many happy years associated with the St. T's community.
Goodbye and thank you to the Jermy family!
