Donna McDonald - Principal's Note
Hello, Kia ora, Talofa lava, Hola, Namaste, Mabuhay, Ciao, Kia Orana, Ahalan, Konnichiwa, Ni hao, Selam, Xin chao, Bonjour, Bula, Dzien/Dobry, Shalom, Dia duit, Mauri, Halo, Bom dia, Gidday, Gutentag Mai i te Kopae ki te Urupa, tatou ako tonu ai - From the cradle to the grave, we are forever learning.
During Level 2 we have been holding whole school Zoom assemblies. These have been a great way to stay connected while we aren't able to use the hall for whole school events. Over the past 2 weeks we have awarded Bronze badges to all our Year 6 students and Leadership certificates from the Archdiocese of Wellington for all of our year 6 students who participated in a Servant Leadership day. Congratulations to all of our very talented year 6's.
We also enjoyed a Sasa demonstration from buddy classes, which was led by our Cultural leaders to mark the end of Samoan Language Week. It was great to be able to focus on 1 group at a time. Thank you to the Cultural Leaders for their organisation of our activities for the week.
We are looking forward to the possibility of going into Alert Level 1 next week and the greater freedom to gather that this will bring, including assemlies and other schoolwide events.
We have found however that the drop off and pick up at the gate system we have implemented during level 2 has had a positive impact right across the school and we would be keen to continue this type of system going forward.
Some of the things we have noticed include:
A much more settled start to the day for many of our children
Less seperation anxiety
A marked increase in independence - children organising their own equipment and belongings and being ready to start their learning as soon as the bell rings (often before!)
More opportunities for teachers to chat with and check in on children before school starts.
With this in mind, can you please take a moment to fill in the survey below:
