Samoa Language Week / Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa
The theme for this year is 'Tapena sou ōso mo lau malaga' which in English means: 'Prepare yourself a gift for your travels'.
After nearly 2 weeks back at school, things are feeling very settled and we have all enjoyed reconnecting. Thank you once again for the very positive way you have all embraced our new drop off and pick up routine. The children come in smiling, chatty and very settled and keen to post their gold token and get organised for the day. This is one of those 'unintended' silver linings that people speak about. Thank you also to our super team of support staff, Julie, Sarah, Sheena, Keely and Toni who have supported Deborah and I to greet you and the children in the morning. They have all commented on how much they enjoy meeting and welcoming the children in the morning.
We will continue with the current drop off and pick up routine until the end of term 2, however as the field is often very wet in the morning we are asking all children to enter through the other 2 gates from tomorrow. We will still be using all 3 gates after school to release the children.
Last week we worked together as a school to create an installation called Bubble Life 2020. Special thanks to Pauline MacLean and Vinny Thompson who worked with the children and staff to bring this project to life.
Safe travels to all of you who are heading away for Queen's birthday weekend. It's very exciting to again have a long weekend with the potential to go away.
All of us can co-operate as instruments of God for the care of creation, each according to his or her own culture, experience, involvements and talents. #LaudatoSi5

Gospel reading for Sunday, 31st May
It has been wonderful to come back together as a school and as part of the process of healing and moving forward we decided to create an art installation to mark this unprecedented time. We looked at the artwork of Lea Anderson from New Mexico for inspiration and we came up with a whole school art piece. This symbolises our individual 'bubbles' coming back together as one large bubble. We hope to have it installed outside, for all to see in the very near future. It is named Bubble Life 2020. Anyone who was absent from the school last week has been included and represented in this piece. Thank you to Vinny Thompson for making the vision come alive. Thanks also to 'Keep Porirua Beautiful' for supplying the backing boards and installing the work.
Celebrating Samaon Language Week at St. Theresa's
How fortunate were we to have these very talented and confident students Rei-Penina and Eseta share their culture with us to mark Samoan Language Week.
This was part of our very different looking cultural activities where our cultural leaders travelled to each class to share their talents.
We are looking forward to our whole school Zoom assembly on Friday, when our cultural leaders will lead each class in a Sasa competition.
Sparks of God - 22nd May, 2020
Congratulations to these children who were awarded a certificate last Friday at our Zoom Assembly. Great effort everyone and well deserved.

Named Fence Picket Palings - Term 2, 2020
At the end of this term, we will be placing our order for named pickets. If you would like to order one, please fill in the form and send back to school. Payment can be made via Internet banking. The order form is further down in our newsletter.
As part of our schoolwide focus on positive behaviour for learning (PB4L) we have been using the gold token box to reinforce our focus areas of kindness and looking after one another.
This week the winning reward was 'Movie afternoon'. The children will get to watch a movie in their class tomorrow.
We will be sharing more information with you in future newsletters about what it means to be a PB4L school.
Samoan Language Week 24th - 30 May
Samoan Language Week 2020
Samoa Language Week / Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa is organised by the Ministry for Pacific Peoples to maintain and promote the language and culture of Samoa. Gagana Samoa is the second most spoken language in some cities like Auckland and Porirua, and the third most spoken language across New Zealand.
Samoa Language Week celebrates the identity, language, and culture of students from Samoa and students whose families are from Samoa; supporting this group of learners to engage and achieve success.
This special week helps all New Zealanders journey towards shared cultural understandings.
The 2019/2020 books are due to expire soon so it's a good time to get your new one right now to enable you to support local as well. Thye are available in digital form only.
