World Wetlands Day and Taupo Swamp

Zealandia te Māra a Tāne and Conservation Volunteers will run a working bee at Taupō Swamp to celebrate World Wetlands Day. It will be on Sunday the 30th of January from 10-2pm and you are very welcome to come along or share with any groups you think might like to be involved. We aim to have a big whānau day out where anyone can get involved in restoration in a social atmosphere.

The details are below,

Join the Conservation Volunteers, Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne, and Friends of Tāupo Swamp to get your hands dirty removing weeds in this unique habitat. Taupō swamp is home to 19 species of bird, a diverse range of plants, native fish such as the longfin eel and kokopu - a treasure for native wildlife right on our doorstep.

You can just turn up or pre-register on the Conservation Volunteers Website here (Link coming mid-December). To learn more about this amazing habitat visit https://www.tauposwamp.org/current-projects

What to wear/bring: Sturdy boots, long sleeves, and long trousers. Ensure you pack warm clothes such as a jacket, beanie, jumper and a rain jacket to protect you against wind and rain. Bring a full water bottle. We’ll provide gloves, tools, light refreshments, and sunscreen.
